It was the kind of day Xie Lian always dreamed of..quiet, peaceful and full of light. They found a field on the outskirts of the town.. filled with blooming wildflowers and golden sunlight. The air was fresh and the birds chirped in the distance.
Hua Cheng laid back on the grass first as if the world couldn’t move him. Xie Lian joined soon after, quietly curling beside him.. then letting his head rest against Hua Cheng's chest like it belonged there. And Hua Cheng simply smiled and placed a hand gently over Xie Lian’s back.
“I love days like this...” Xie Lian whispered, his voice barely louder than the wind rustling through the flowers. “Don’t you?”
Hua Cheng hummed. “If you’re in it.. I do, Gege..” Xie Lian laughed softly. “You always agree with me, don't you?.."
Hua Cheng grinned, letting his fingers brush through Xie Lian’s hair.. slow and unhurried. “Because Gege is always right"
Xie Lian smiled and closed his eyes, listening to Hua Cheng’s heartbeat beneath his cheek. There was a short pause.. the kind that felt like a deep breath between thoughts. Xie Lian looked out across the field where flowers swayed gently like they were dancing just for them.
“You know..” Xie Lian said, voice softer now. “I used to imagine myself lying in a place like this.. no one needing anything from me. Just… being.”
“And now?”
Xie Lian tilted his head slightly to look up at him. “Now I’m not alone.”
Hua Cheng looked down at him with such adoration it could shatter entire realms. He reached up to tuck a strand of Xie Lian’s hair behind his ear.
“You’ll never be alone again, Gege.”
Xie Lian smiled. “That’s a very heavy promise.”
“I don’t make light ones.”
They lay like that for a long while bodies relaxed.. hearts steady. Xie Lian would occasionally murmur things about the clouds or the color of a butterfly’s wings nearby. Hua Cheng would hum in response.. never interrupting and only grounding him with the weight of his presence.
“…San Lang” Xie Lian said after a while, blinking slowly. “Can I ask you something silly?”
“You can ask me anything.”
“If I turned into a flower, what kind would I be?”
Hua Cheng raised a brow, amused. “A flower?”
“Yes.."
“Mm… probably one of those sunflowers that looking bright and give a happy environment.." Xie Lian chuckling. “That sounds oddly accurate.”
Hua Cheng leaned down and brushing a soft kiss onto Xie Lian’s forehead. “If I were a flower, I’d grow beside you. Always.”
“You’re so dramatic, San Lang..” Xie Lian murmured as his voice already drifting toward sleep. Hua Cheng smiled and closed his eyes while holding him closer.
“You know me, Gege.."
Under the clear sky and golden sun, the two rested..just a god and a ghost king, curled into each other like the world had finally given them permission to dream.
