I showered immediately after getting back from practice. Brendon never told me where we were going, so I didn't know wether to dress nice or not.I just slipped on my best pair of dark blue jeans and a black muscle t-shirt with a white rose in a circle printed on it. I curled my hair and parted my bangs to the left and pinned them back. I started to put on a new coat of black winged eyeliner when I got a text.
'be there in 10 -B'
'I know who you are, no need to use the signature -R'
'it will be our thing plus it makes it more mysterious -B'
'well you can do that, I'll stick to caller id'
'way to ruin it -B' I smile and shake my head. I put my phone down and continue to finish my makeup. I slip on my black high tops.
Well, I've got five minutes to waste.
Audrey had already left for the party when I got back from practice, so our dorm was quiet and mostly empty from still unpacking. Audrey's side had already been thrashed with clothes from the very start. That girl wasn't much for keeping things tidy.
My phone buzzes again and I see a text from Ryan.
'how about we work on the poem more tomorrow? we go for ice cream and brainstorm??'
'sounds good as long as youre paying lol'
'of course lol'

I hear a knock at the door. I stand up and open the door to see Brendon dressed a little nicer than he was dressed earlier in class.
"Ready?"
"Where are we going anyways?"
"One of my favorite places to go. Here's the thing, it might come off as creepy, but I think you'll like it, too."
"You're not taking me to a strip club, are you?" I laugh.
"Hey, that could be our second date." He grins.
"I don't know, I don't go to strip clubs until the third date." I try to shake off the fact that he was calling this a date.
We walk to his car and he opens the passenger door for me.
"M'lady." He says as he opens it and gestures in to the car. I move inside the car but turn around and curtsy before stepping in. He shuts the door and walks around to the drivers side and steps in.
"So you're still not gonna tell me where we're going?"
"You'll see. It's way better than the party, trust me."
We pull up to the same cemetery I had called beautiful when I first saw it on the bus to school. It was even more beautiful up close.
"Don't freak out, it's actually really ni-"
"I know. I saw it on my way here. It's really pretty. "
"It's even better at sunset. I knew you'd like it."
"Where are we gonna sit?"
"Oh, I have a blanket in here. Well it's not really a blanket, more like an oversized sweatshirt, but it works." He shrugs and grabs the light gray sweatshirt from the back seat. He gets out with the sweatshirt in hand and opens my door for me again. I shut the door myself so I don't seem like I'm making him do everything.
We walk through the black gate entrance and find a spot on a small hill, giving us a view of the pink and orange sunset that settles behind a black picket fence.
While Brendon laid down the giant sweatshirt, I gazed over to a headstone.
'Melanie Martinez. Loving daughter, sister, and friend.'
Melanie.
'My name's Melanie and I'm not good enough.'
Oh shit.
"You okay?" I snap my head up and smile faintly.
"Oh yeah, I just thought I saw something."
"Don't worry, there's no zombies."
"But wouldn't that be a bad ass first date? Fighting zombies?"
"Who said this was our first date?" He smirks.
"Um, you. Like a few minutes ago."
"Oh." His smirk falls and he chuckles shyly.

We spent three hours sitting there on that big gray sweatshirt talking about anything that popped up in our heads.
"It's getting kind of cold, we should probably head back." I say as I rub my exposed arms.
"Let's get some pizza, you hungry? Oh, and here." He takes off his black jacket and puts it around my shoulders.
"Wow, is this the part where we gaze into each other's eyes and start making out?" I laugh.
"It's not a bad idea." He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively as he grins wickedly.
"Let's go get some pizza." I laugh and shake my head. We both stand up and he grabs the sweatshirt from the ground.
***
We walk back to my dorm, stomachs filled with pizza.
"So, strip club next?" He asks when we reach the door to my dorm.
I laugh. "Good night. I'll see you tomorrow." He nods and turns to walk away.
"Hey, Riley?" He turns around.
"Yea-" He pulls forward and kisses me.
Damn.
He pulls back. "I forgot my jacket." He smiles. I pull off his jacket and hand it to him.
"I thought you were going to tell me to keep it like they do in the movies." I say childishly.
"Ah, but I'm not like the ones in the movies." He grins.
"Good night, dumb ass." I grin as I look at our shoes.
"Good night, Riley." He turns around and walks away slowly.
No, you're definitely not like the ones in the movies.
