Accidentally Married

Chapter 35

Once we got to the car, I was thinking of how I would apologise for today's situation. Daniel is a busy man and the fact that he had to put his work aside for a shopping incident is not okay.

" I'll text you okay, don't overthink this it wasn't your fault, " Reah says as she hugs me goodbye.

I nod. " drive safe. "

Daniel is on the passenger side of the car waiting for me to enter. Once I'm in he closes the door and walks to his side.

I can tell he is still angry by the way he is gripping the steering wheel. " I'm sorry for what happened earlier, we had it under control until they called the police and I didn't know what to do so I just called you, " I blurt out

" I'm not angry at you, " he says not taking his eyes off the road. " She is going to regret making you cry, " he says more to himself then to me.

" Where are we going? " I ask seeing that we aren't taking the normal route home.

" you will see when we get there, "

Was all he said before turning the radio on. Which I'm grateful for because I don't like awkward silence.They were playing 2000 classics, soon the worries of today were a distant memory and I feel asleep.

I don't know how long I've been asleep, the sun is about to go down and Daniel is leaning against the hood of the car watching it. I slowly make my way to him.

The view is even better from here. I can tell we are on a cliff somewhere. You can see city lights from here it's a beautiful sight. I look at Daniel but he is already looking at me. " come here Tesoro, "

I walk until there's a few feet between us. " can I hold you for a while, " he asks shocking me.

" Uhm sure, I guess, " his large hands wrap around my waist and pull me into a comfortable hug. He places his face in the nap of my neck and he stays this way for a minute or two before pulling away to look at my face without letting go of my waist.

" how are you mi amor? He asks meeting my eyes.

" I was a little emotional back there but I'm okay now,"

" I'm sorry you had to go through all that, I didn't know Antonia acts like that "

" Antonia?"

" she's my cousin her mother owns the store, I can't excuse her behaviour but I promise you she will pay for your tears" he says with  determination.

I nod. " your family is against people of color?"

He places his hand cups my cheek. " I would have said no if it wasn't for today but know I don't know. Regardless, their opinion doesn't matter. I married the most beautiful woman in this world "

Most beautiful??? lol

I just nod because I don't know what to say to that. I'm yet to meet his family properly. I've met his best friend and his fiancé and they seemed cool, I hope his parents won't be racist too.

" Amanda," I humm in response. " you look exhausted"

" I am Daniel, I'm so tired, " the last part shaky. I don't know if he can tell that referring to emotional exhaustion and not physical exhaustion. My heart has been so heavy and I've just been suppressing all my emotions.

Daniel doesn't say anything. He excuses himself and goes into the car. I hear him turn up the radio and come out with a small blanket, before returning to where he was standing.

" turn around" I do as I'm told and I feel him wrap the blanket around my shoulders and slowly pulling me back into his arms. " sono io il tuo rifugio, amore mio. Non devi pio protare il peso da sola" I am your refuge, my love. You no longer have to carry the weight alone.

" what did you say?" I ask as I lean into his body. His scent engulfs me like a a safety net. " you do know I don't speak Italian right?" I say jokingly, trying to lighten the mood.

" I said you will be okay," he says softly " just look at city and breathe."I don't press on the topic and we fall into a comfortable silence. My stomach is filled with butterflies as he starts to sway our bodies to the rhythm of the song playing.

The view. The hugging . The music in the background. This shouts romance in so many ways but I stop myself from thinking like that because I know it's all just pretend until the contract ends.
