Lan Zhan peered up at Wei Ying's face, which balled up slightly. It was twisted with fear and regret. Did he do something bad, and he feared his reaction? Standing up to meet his eyes, Lan Zhan tilted his head slightly. "Is this a conversation that's best held inside?"
Wei Ying looked up. They were standing on one of the lower corals. No one above ground could hear them this far down, and no one was on the lake's surface today. "No, we can just stay here. But, it is something very important."
"I see."
Wei Ying looked back at the lake, wishing his mother was here to help him explain again. But, she would sit back and clarify things. She tends to do that when she believes the situation is one he needs to handle on his own. "I- I'm not your average human." Lan Zhan just raised an eyebrow in confusion. "No, even before my death. I guess it's correct to say that I was given the form of a normal human but, I'm not a normal human. My soul had to be sealed so my human body didn't destroy itself."
"Divine?" Thank the Supremes that his Lan Zhan is so smart! Wei Ying let out a breath of air, "More than that. There's more out there beyond this world we reside in. So many universes, and timelines, and all have their own individual gods. But, all those gods all serve the Supremes." Wei Ying looked at the still lake's surface, feeling his anxiety drop he felt confident enough to continue. "My mother is a Supreme, Supreme Light is her official title. She had fallen in love and had three children, I'm the youngest of the three."
Wei Ying missed his Jiejie's. Maybe he could ask his mother to bring them one day. Actually, never mind. Da-jie might just attempt to murder Lan Zhan and Er-jie... Well, it depends. She could either join Da-Jie or watch on the sidelines. She'll help once she realizes how much he loves him, but she'll mostly watch. They're so overprotective that it's insane.
"My older sisters had no interest in becoming Supremes and were content to remain as Eunha's. The rank given to children born of Supremes who either don't want to become Supremes or cannot become one." A good example is Maia's eldest twins and her set with Aether, all four of them have the capacity to become Supremes but prefer to serve their mother instead. Wei Ying had looked up to Elena and Lucrecio a lot when he was younger but found it weird that they never desired to become more than they are now. But now that he's older, he understands them perfectly. Being a Supreme comes with too much responsibility, it's easier just to remain as an Eunha than it is to become a Supreme.
"I wanted to become a Supreme and begged my mother for over a century for permission. Eventually, she caved and I was reincarnated in this world as an ordinary human for my trial." Lan Zhan shifted slightly, "Trial?"
"Think of it as a test. I was supposed to awaken my divine blood in this world as a human to see if I could handle it. Near the end of my life, I had been slowly tapping into my divine side since the Resentment I was wielding so closely resembled the power I had as an Eunha." Seeing Lan Zhan's confusion, Wei Ying elaborated. "While my mother is Supreme Light, she had two younger brothers. So, all three of us had the potential to tap into one of their abilities, and that is what happened with me. My Da-Jiu is the Supreme Darkness and my biological father was a creature known as a Dark Elf. They don't exist in this world but, to explain it simply. They were creatures of nature that also drew power from the dead." Born with his dark attributes resulted in him drawing power from Da-Jiu rather than his mother. He was a sliver of darkness born from light as she would always say.
He used to spend his juvenile years bouncing between his mother and uncles for training. So, he knew the full scope of his darkness which ended up being similar to his A-Niang's abilities. He could create things using shadows and also purify and cleanse by removing the impurities. Maybe that's why he breezed through stage four so quickly, his abilities at its core have always been about cleansing through darkness.
