Five Years Later
"Mommy! Mommy!," my five year old twins Casen and Carter said in unison. I look up and I can't help but to smile at the sight of them swimming around the pool. My babies are truly fish because they love the water! Cairo and I put them in swimming lessons at three years old and they have been swimming ever since.
"Yes my sweet babies?," I said while gently pushing my legs back and forth in the water as I sit on the ledge of the pool.
"Mommy look at my front stroke ok?," Casen said.
"Ok baby let me see," I said while smiling. I watch as Casen skillfully does a front stroke about half the length of the pool before coming up for air and wiping his face.
"Me next ok mommy?," Carter said.
"Ok baby go," I said. I watch as Carter swims to the same place where his brother is.
"I'm so proud of you two, you both are such great swimmers," I said while clapping my hands and smiling. Casen and Carter chuckle and then I watch as they do a little handshake that they created together. They both wipe their face again at the same time before they start to swim towards me. I can't help but to smile at them. Them being twins, it still shocks me that they are so in tune with each other. They are always doing motions at the same times, or finishing each other sentences. They truly have that twin connection you read about. They are so alike but also so different. Casen, the oldest by minutes, is more outgoing compared to Carter. Plus Casen is super protective of Carter. Like you cannot mess with Carter at all and get away with it. Carter is a bit more shy and definitely less trusting of strangers. They are both so smart and caring though. They are both sweethearts. I look at them all the time in awe that they are me and Cairo's sons. I can't believe it even still sometimes. They are both so adorable too, looking just like Cairo when he was growing up. He could never ever deny them in his life.
Once Casen and Carter are to me they both climb out and sit on either side of me. I hand them both a towel and they dry off before I give them each an embrace and kiss on the forehead.
"Ok are you two ready to get ready for your party now?," I asked while smiling as I stand up and dry off my legs.
"Yes I can't wait!!," Casen said.
"Yes me too!," Carter said.
"Mommy thank you and daddy for the party it's going to be so much fun," Casen said.
"Mmhmm you and daddy are the best!," Carter said. I smile as I wrap the towel around my waist. I squat down and rest my hands on each of their shoulders.
"You know me and your daddy love you very much and we would do anything for both of you. I can't believe my babies are five years old today," I said while pouting.
"Mommy we aren't babies anymore," Casen said while giggling.
"Right," Carter said.
"You two will always be my babies!," I exclaimed. I pull them both close before alternating kisses over both of their faces.
"Ok....let's get you two ready for the party," I said. I stand up and grab both of their hands and we all slip on our flip flops. It's so nice having an indoor pool that Casen and Carter can swim in anytime they want. We exit the pool area and make our way towards the kitchen. I can't help but to smile when I see Cairo, my husband, moving around the kitchen with his back towards us.
"Hey baby," I said. Cairo turns around and smiles at the sight of me and the boys. I can't help but to smile back and also at the beautiful baby girl in his arms, our two year old daughter, Jasmine.
