Later that day
Elijah drives me and Honor to the hospital, to Dr Fell again. Just for a little post-natal check-up, since Dr Fell didn't exactly have much to work with yesterday, when I gave birth. We just want to make sure our baby and I are both okay.
The check-up doesn't last too long. Dr Fell takes care of it herself, so we don't have to explain our situation to any outsiders. Basically, Honor and I are both fine, as she says. She tells me to take it easy for a while, as far as possible, and prescrbes some postnatal medical stuff to take for me. We stop by the pharmacy to get it.
As Elijah pays, he turns his head to me. "Do you think you might be up for another trip like this tomorrow?
"I guess." I answer, "Why?"
"Because I was hoping to show you something." my husband says.
I readjust Honor on my arm. "Oh? May I ask what?"
"I'm afraid not. I'd like it to be a surprise, darling." he responds.
I purse my lips. "Well, now I'm intrigued."
"I sure hope so." Elijah smirks.

"And I hope you know who to make a godmother here, because there is only one right answer." Caroline states. Right now, she's sitting on our living room and holding my daughter for the first time. She carefully rocks her back and forth while beaming subtly and biting her lips in palpable excitement. It appears, having a newborn baby in her arms is a worldchanging occasion for her. The sight reminds me a little of the first time I held Iduna's baby boy. I guess the first time holding a baby, even if it isn't yours, is always magical. Of course, holding my own baby for the first time was even more special. Although I was so incredibly tired when that happened.
But back to Caroline. "Let me guess: The one right answer is 'you'?!"
"Exactly." my bubbly blonde friend replies, "I'm the perfect choice. I'm organized, reliable, smart, gorgeous-"
"-uuhmm... I mean, yes, you are, but why is that relevant for a godmother?"
"Elena!" Care looks at me like I'm an idiot, "Use your head! If you were a five-year-old kid, who would you want the other kids to see you pick up at kindergarten? Some boring Mikaelson brother or a beautiful blonde like me?"
"Boring?" Elijah raises his eyebrows.
Caroline shoots him a side glance. "Will you shut it?! We're trying to settle a very important issue here."
"Yes, I can see that." he replies, barely fazed, "Nevertheless, I do advice you try not to use that word around Kol. Or Niklaus, for that matter. If you value your romantic harmony."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." she rolls her eyes and turns back to me. "Anyway, back to the topic. I will be the godmother. I already gave you many reasons, but there are so many more. I've read books about children, more than you. And I'm the sheriff's daughter, which would come in handy for any child-"
"Care-" I attempt to interrupt her.
She doesn't hear me. "- and, since I've been shopping for your baby before the birth, I already know where to get the cutest baby clothes."
I look at my husband. He looks back at me with slight amusement in his caramel eyes.
"Also, I'm Mystic Falls' number one gossip queen, so I'll always know stuff about the other kids and their parents."
"Care!" I interrupt again, this time louder. She goes quiet and looks at me. I give her a small but warm smile. "We do want you to be her godmother."
"You do?" Caroline asks, sounding cautiously hopeful.
