"Are you okay?" Caroline asks and rubs my shoulder.

Ever since I saw the fury on Rebekah's face, I haven't been joyful anymore. My good mood from earlier today is almost entirely gone. It makes me sad. I'm not as sad as I was when I first left the viking times though, so at least that's something, I guess. I pour myself another cup of tea. As I pour, for just a second, it looks like the tea temporarily freezes mid-air. I blink. When I open my eyes again, the tea flows out of the kettle as usual. I guess I must have imagined it.
I turn to Caroline in order to finally answer her question. "As okay as can be, I guess. But seriously, why does Rebekah have a problem with me? We parted on good terms in her times."

"Yeah, but... something happened here, just about two years ago." Caroline says.

Bonnie speaks up. "Before we get into that, can we get back to me being with Kol? I mean, in what kind of universe is that even possible?!"

"Not now, Bon!" Care hisses.

Bonnie sighs a little, but under Care's scolding gaze, she reluctantly nods. Then, Caroline turns to look at me.

"Elena, when we were still 17 years old, you and Stefan got together. Then, Katherine came into town and tried to win him back, but he didn't want her anymore." she begins.

I nod. That much, I already knew.

My bubbly blonde friend inhales deeply. "Right. So, Katherine failed. In the process of trying, she turned me into a vampire, hoping I would get Damon away from her, since he was trying to win her back as his girlfriend. That didn't work out either. But anyway, when the originals came into town, they took our side and so, Katherine fled. She hasn't bothered us since. You and Stefan stayed together for a long time, more than 4 years. But eventually, you started growing apart. At first, you tried to work it out, but it only made things worse. You started fighting. One huge fight finally ended in the two of you breaking up. You were devastated, both of you were.

Now, Elijah... from the very first moment he saw you when we were still teenagers, he seemed completely enthralled by you. Now that I know you're his wife, that actually seems really sweet, but back then, it just seemed creepy."

"Creepy!?" I gasp, "Did I ever think that?"

"Yeah, kind of. I mean, you never said it to his face, as far as I know, but you did say to us that him constantly staring at you was making you uncomfortable sometimes." Caroline looks at me apologetically.

"Damn!" I find that regretful as well as somewhat understandable.

Bonnie hums. "Yes. But the story doesn't end there. You see, since you were already in a relationship, Elijah never actually tried anything during his first four years of knowing you. He was only a friend to you, albeit he was trying to be a good friend. Aside from this whole 'creepy' thing, you actually liked him well enough, I guess. But when he heard that you and Stefan broke up, he came to find you. He found you at the Grill that night and tried to comfort you while you were crying. You put your head on his shoulder and cried. I don't know what exactly happened next, but I do know that he kind of... made a pass at you. Obviously, it was way too soon. Your bad break-up was literally hours ago. In that moment, you thought he was trying to take advantage of your vulnerable state and in addition, you were angry already, because of Stefan. So, you ended up yelling at Elijah. You said some really nasty things to him and told him to leave you alone."
