After Fionna stormed out of the kitchen and the two males complained to one another, Gumball stood up from his spot on the floor and followed after the girl.
"You, stay here. And make sure the candy dip doesn't get burned."
Marshall raised an eyebrow as he watched Gumball get up and leave.
"And no drinking the red from other apples." Gumball popped his head back into the kitchen and narrowed his eyes at the vampire before leaving once more.
After hearing a rather loud and weary sigh come from Marshall, Gumball slightly smiled and left to find Fionna.
"Fionna!"
"Fionna!!!"
"FIONN-"
"I'm right here, PG. Was there something you wanted?" The girl popped from the shadows with her arms across her chest and a rather unamused expression on her face.
"O-Oh. Fionna." Gumball sputtered when the girl appeared and anxiously looked away.
"I was just worried about you... and I'm sorry for pulling such an indecent joke on you... Though I swear I didn't mean for it to be a joke. I sincerely just wanted to help you." He paused and looked back at the girl with an apologetic look.
"I'm also terribly sorry for inviting you as a chef for the ball... I thought you might have had fun while baking..." His voice trailed off when he saw Fionna sigh and shake her head.
Just as he was about to continue to apologize, his eyes slowly began to widen when Fionna began to laugh.
"It's really no problem at all, Gumball. Don't worry about it. And I guess I just got fed up in the moment because you guys always pull these... stupid pranks that really..." She shrugged and held onto her arm.
"I don't know... they just get boring after a while." A warmth began to spread onto her cheeks as she looked away.
"And I just kind of wanted to be treated like a friend... y'know? Not just some girl or... trophy. I can take care of myself and... well I have emotions too so when you guys do all that sort of junk..."
Gumball frowned and hesitantly reached forwards, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"I-I'm sorry, Fionna. I honestly had no idea you felt this way! And we do treat you like a friend... or I know I do..." He paused and took a breath before continuing, his cheeks tinting into a darker shade of pink.
"But I know for a fact that you're more than just a friend to me, so it can be difficult at times to treat you like just a friend... I'm sorry, I'll try my best to not make any unwanted advances."
Fionna looked back at Gumball with a shy expression scribbled on her face and raised her hands in defense.
"N-No, you're fine PG! I was just saying that at that time..." She sighed again and offered a sheepish smile.
"But thank you anyways for apologizing... and thank you for, uh... seeing me as more than just an object to be played with."
Gumball sighed with relief and took a step back to recompose himself.
"Fionna... will you go the the ball with me? As my... date?"
The girl widened her eyes and rubbed the side of her arm.
"Gee, Gumball... I."
"You...?"
"I... guess, yeah. As pals, right?"
