Aside from the obvious horrors of camping, Violet thought the main pain of the so-called holiday must be the mornings. Sleep wasn't easily managed when stuck on a deflating pink Lilo; so when dawn finally rolls by it's hard to find it as nothing else but a blessing.
Well, a blessing wrapped in morning breath and clammy skin, that is.
A light snore came from beside Violet and she shuffled in her tight cocoon of a sleeping bag to face Aiden. His mouth was wide open, white teeth peeking through while his chin folded over multiple times, exactly like Mia's did in the car journey up. His snoring had been somewhat bearable during the night, unlike his sister's.
Pulling off a slight piece of string from her pyjama top, Violet let herself mull an idea in her head before biting back the smile tugging at her lips. Aiden's mouth was still open, a faint bit of dribble trailing down his cheek, almost beckoning her sense of humour.
It was too good an opportunity to miss.
Wrapping the string in a ball Violet aimed, left eye squinting shut, before firing inside his mouth. Almost instantly he shot up, coughing violently before a clump of spit and string went flying into the air and plummeting towards the other side of the tent.
Looking up at her, Aiden frowned while she just laughed. "That was cruel." he said softly. Shrugging her shoulders, she let her eyes roam around his serious case of bed hair before laying her head back on the uncomfortable plastic Lilo.
"That's what they all say," she replied. Grinning, Aiden rearranged himself back in his sleeping bag before staring out into the thin tent wall. The dark figures of Cole and Mia's sleeping bodies were behind it.
"You think they're asleep?" he said quietly, not wanting to make too much noise in case they were.
"Mia has elf ears," Violet harshly whispered and a light shuffling came from the other side of the tent before a sleepy, but awake, voice muttered something along the lines of, "At least I don't have Caesar's nose."
Turning towards Aiden, Violet gave him a pointed look before saying, "It isn't that long yet!"
"It still has time to grow."
She ignored her friend's last comment, about to change the topic instead, but Cole piped in. "We should get up guys. Today's going to be busy."
Suddenly, Violet was thankful there was a thin wall separating the two from each other. Last night's fanatics were still fresh in her mind, the little amount of sleep she had not doing any good either.
When no one replied to his instruction, Cole sighed dramatically before faffing about and slowly unzipping Violet and Aiden's part of the tent. His dishevelled hair and dark eyes stared right past his sister and towards Aiden. "We're going in half an hour," he announced.
Groaning, Violet slid her head inside the sleeping bag. She coiled her body up before stubbornly muttering a muffled no. "I don't think we have much choice," Aiden said, turning towards her.
"I'm on strike."
Surprising the heavens once again, he laughed. "Girls who attack innocent looking cars aren't allowed on strike."
"Shut up, rusty nuts," she muttered back sleepily, once again having to stop herself from smiling.
Following a lot of faffing and talk, the group found themselves tucked in the small space of the car that had gotten them into this situation. "The bloody radio isn't working," Cole muttered angrily as Violet sank into her seat a little more. He banged onto the monitor a bit more before unnecessarily groaning and turning the engine on in a huff. Mia joined him.
