Sasuke and I remained hidden, barely breathing.
From the clearing, Gaara's voice rang out, twisted with menace.
"Come out and prove your existence matters more than mine! You'll never know unless you fight! Feel it—attack me!" he snarled.
My eyes widened, frozen in place. Sasuke was the same—tense, silent.
"We can't just stand here," I muttered. "If we do nothing, he'll kill us."
Sasuke gave a sharp nod. "Then we fight. If we die... we die trying."
Without another word, we stood, rising in sync. Our Sharingan flared to life. Lightning crackled in our palms as we performed the hand signs for Chidori. Blue energy surged.
Stepping from our cover, we faced Gaara head-on.
He grinned, eyes gleaming with madness. "Finally... some fun. The Uchiha twins join the party."
In an instant, Sasuke launched forward, his Chidori slashing through Gaara's monstrous sand arm. Gaara howled in agony. Seizing the opportunity, I circled and struck from the side, slicing through the remaining limb with my own Chidori. His scream rose, echoing through the trees, before he crashed against a thick branch.
I landed beside Sasuke. We both stared at Gaara's unmoving form.
Suddenly, he twitched. Then sat up—laughing. Maniacally.
"Yes... this pain... this thrill... That's it. I've been waiting for this. Crushing you both will be exquisite."
He crouched low, beastlike, ready to pounce.
"What the—?" I murmured, watching in horror as his sand arm regenerated—larger and more monstrous than before. A second arm emerged from the gourd.
Before we could react, Gaara lunged at us at terrifying speed.
My Sharingan activated just in time—I dodged, flipping and catching myself on the underside of a branch. Sasuke hung beside me, panting. But Gaara gave no pause. He came at us again.
Sasuke began forming signs. I followed suit.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!" I shouted, launching a massive flame. Sasuke's fire joined mine, the two jutsus colliding in a roaring inferno.
But when the smoke cleared—he was still coming.
"You're finished," Gaara sneered.
His colossal sand arm slammed into us, sending our bodies flying. I was launched high, slamming into a thick trunk with a sickening crunch. I crashed downward—landing in Sasuke's lap.
"Ugh..." I groaned, coughing, gasping for air.
It has to be the Chidori, I thought. Nothing else even slows him down.
Gaara loomed above us, unscathed.
"That's all you've got?" he mocked. "Pathetic. Your hatred... it's weak. Soft. Forgiving. You can't kill with hearts like that. True strength comes from hate—pure, burning, endless hate. That's why you'll never win."
My fingers twitched as rage bubbled inside me.
"Shut up," Sasuke growled.
Gaara's smile widened. "You understand what that means, don't you?"
"Just shut up!" we shouted together.
"You're weaker than me," he said simply. "You always have been."
I pushed to my feet, fury blazing in my chest.
Itachi... you truly are a monster, I thought bitterly. You left us to suffer this hell.
My Sharingan spun as I activated it once more. Beside me, Sasuke stood—Chidori in hand, his curse mark beginning to flare.
He dashed forward to meet Gaara. They clashed midair, lightning and sand erupting. Sasuke landed shakily on a branch, Gaara a few above. One of Gaara's arms disintegrated from the blow.
I moved quickly to Sasuke's side, noticing the strain in his face—his Chidori flickering, the curse mark spreading. Just as I reached him, his legs gave out.
"Sasuke!" I caught him, laying him down gently.
Seeing him broken ignited something dark within me. My curse mark pulsed—I didn't resist this time. I let the power surge through me.
Gaara advanced again. I formed the hand signs. Lightning sparked in my palm.
This might kill me, I thought. But I won't let him hurt Sasuke again.
I sprinted toward Gaara. Our jutsus collided—my Chidori tore through his newly formed sand arm. He screamed and dropped to his knees, writhing in pain.
But I was out of strength. My limbs gave out, and I began to fall. As I slipped from the branches, I saw Gaara rising again—staggering, relentless—heading for Sasuke.
No... move, damn it! MOVE! I screamed internally.
Then—a blur of orange.
Naruto.
And pink—Sakura caught me midair, soft and steady.
"We've got you. Don't worry," she said gently, carrying me to where Naruto now stood between Sasuke and Gaara.
She laid me beside my brother as Gaara snarled at Naruto.
'This... this isn't going to end well'
