One of them chuckled darkly.

"Stop your prattling, you little weaklings. Come on and fight me."

I glared at him while Sasuke lunged forward, pulling out a wire. He blocked the guy's kick and swiftly wrapped the wire around his feet. Sasuke followed up with kicks and punches, but the enemy dodged each one until Sasuke saw an opening—just as the guy shouted:

"Do!"

An invisible force slammed into Sasuke, knocking him backward.

"Re!"

This time, Sasuke was launched upward, his back colliding with the trunk of a tree.

"Hm," the man sneered, "your bones ring with a nice low tone. I wonder what your sister's bones sound like."

He smirked at me. My glare sharpened as I charged forward, kunai in hand. I hurled it at his head, forcing him to tilt his head aside. Taking the chance, I swung a kick at him, but he caught my foot. I retaliated with a punch, but he dodged easily.

"Do!" he barked again.

Suddenly, I was blasted away, crashing near Sasuke.

"Ah~ she has a higher tone than you," the man mused, grinning. "Still, a lovely ring."

I groaned, pushing myself to my feet to stand beside Sasuke.

"Let's switch to a sharper reverberation," the man drawled.

Sasuke and I kept our eyes on him—until we both sensed movement from the side. We leapt away just in time, only to see another enemy with four arms spit webs at us. The webs snared our arms, and before we could break free, he swung us straight into the fists of a hulking brute, who punched us back toward the music freak.

"I think we'll go with a mi–fa–so combination now," the music freak smirked, swinging for us.

We dodged. Sasuke kicked him upward, and I jumped behind, slamming a kick into his back and sending him crashing down.

But before we could regain control, we somehow found ourselves dangling upside down, the music freak gripping our ankles with ease.

"Tch," he scoffed, looking us over. "I don't know what Lord Orochimaru sees in you two. When you grow up in a dump of a village, I suppose you're bound to turn out mediocre at best—never realizing your true strength."

"You're both acting like fools," the girl with them added coldly. "You should come with us. Lord Orochimaru offers you power."

Suddenly, an intense burning sensation shot through my curse mark. Her words blurred as I clenched my teeth against the pain.

"So what's it going to be? Are you both in—or out?" the music freak taunted, throwing us against a wall. I cried out from the impact.

"What do you say, kids? If these runts make me wait any longer, I'll ring their necks."

"Tch, I'd like to see you try, you freak," I hissed, feeling the curse mark spread across half my body as my Sharingan flared.

The man's grin widened. "So, both of you have curse marks, huh? You didn't think you were the only pets of Orochimaru, did you? Be careful. Use that curse mark too recklessly, and it'll eat away at your body. You're in the early stages now, so it won't consume you too quickly. But once it spreads fully... your former selves will be gone forever."

As quickly as it had come, the mark retreated back into dormancy, leaving me panting.

"In exchange for its power, you'll be tethered to Lord Orochimaru. All freedom—gone. To gain one thing, another must be left behind. What are your purposes in this life? To rot in this little backwater village with your friends? Don't tell me you've forgotten Itachi Uchiha."
