Sasuke and I stood in the middle of the training field. With a Chidori crackling in my hand, I charged toward a boulder and struck it with all my strength. The impact exploded in a blinding flash of lightning, leaving behind a smoking crater. I dropped to one knee, panting, brows furrowing.
"Damn it," I muttered under my breath. "It's still not good enough."
A few feet away, Sasuke sat with one leg propped up, his gaze fixed on the damage. His voice was low and bitter.
"We weren't able to do anything... We weren't strong enough," he mumbled.
"We just laid there... unable to move... watching our friends suffer and fall." My hands clenched into fists. "I don't ever want to be in that position again."
Sasuke stood abruptly. His own Chidori sparked to life, and with a furious yell, he charged toward the boulder. Lightning clashed against stone again, deepening the already massive crater.

[Time Skip]
Later, Sasuke and I decided to look for Kakashi-sensei. We entered the building and pushed open the door to his usual room—only to freeze. It was filled with Jōnin. At the center, Kakashi lay slumped in a chair, unconscious.
I tensed immediately.
"Why is Kakashi asleep?" Sasuke asked, suspicious.
"And why are there so many Jōnin here? What's going on?" I demanded, my voice rising. "What the hell happened to him?!"
Before anyone could answer, a ninja burst into the room.
"Is it true? Is Itachi back? Has he returned to capture Naruto?!"
My eyes widened. My Sharingan activated without thought, the tomoe spinning rapidly before fading. Sasuke's breath caught. Without another word, we bolted from the room and leapt across rooftops, moving fast.
"So... he's finally back, huh?" I muttered to Sasuke as we ran.
"And he's after Naruto..." Sasuke growled. "What the hell does this mean?"
"I don't know," I said coldly. "But we'll handle it."
When we arrived at Naruto's apartment, I rushed to open the door just as Sakura stepped out.
"Huh? Oh, hey guys—"
"Where is Naruto?" we demanded in unison.
"Uh—I don't know. I just got here myself—"
We didn't wait for her to finish. We took off again, this time toward Ichiraku Ramen.
"Old man," Sasuke called as we skidded to a stop, "Naruto was here earlier, right? Do you know where he went?"
"Oh, Naruto? Let me think... yeah, he came by around noon. Met with Master Jiraiya. They had some ramen and said they were heading off somewhere."
"Where to?" I asked quickly.
"Hmm... that outpost town outside the village. They said they had some business out there."
"Jiraiya?" Sasuke repeated.
"Yeah. One of the Legendary Sannin. If you're lookin' for him, he's a big fella with white hair."
"Got it," I said, and without wasting another second, we ran.

[Outskirts – Outpost Town]
We sprinted through the trees until the forest thinned, revealing the bustling outpost town ahead. Crowds moved in every direction. Market stalls, food carts, and wandering travelers filled the streets.
