I wake up to a pillow being thrown at my head and Clary saying groggily, "Iz, turn the bloody alarm off. We need to get ready to go."
"I'm up! What... oh." I say popping up and then turning my alarm off.
"I'm taking a shower." Clary says.
I nod and say, "I'm not going to take a shower."
Clary nods as she shut and locks the bathroom door. I pull out my ceremonial gear which I hadn't worn since the last parabatai ceremony the London Institute had had for two boys named James and Matthew.
I quickly change and pull on my weapons belt. I clip the kindjal to my belt, and fix my hair. I hear the shower stop as I start pulling it back in a braid that falls down the length of my back. I'm half way done when I mess up.
"Ahhh!" I say as I unbraid my hair.
"Let me." Clary says walking up behind me dressed in her ceremonial gear.
She takes my hair in her hands and quickly braids it.
"Okay, your turn. Sit down." I say standing up.
Clary takes my place, and I straighten her hair. I pull it back. I quickly braid her hair back, and then fix her make-up.
"Well, I guess I'm done. Your cheeks are too sunken in for anymore make-up. If I add anymore your going to look like a zombie with pink blush... sorry." I say my eyebrows furrowing.
"I look good, Iz. Worry about your own make-up. I still have to get my weapons belt and arm myself." Clary says as she stands up.
"Okay, but hurry we have to meet the others at the gates in fifteen minutes." I say starting to apply my make-up.
After about ten minutes I finally finish, and Clary has all of our stuff packed and she is ready to head to the gates.
"Come on, Iz. I'm sure Simon Lewis is walking his gear off down there." Clary says as we walk out of the room.
"Oh yeah. He is plenty nervous I'm sure." I say laughing as we start down the stairs to the doors.
"It's Simon, why wouldn't he be nervous." Clary says as we bust out laughing.
We walk out of the doors and to the gates where everyone is waiting on us. Including Jocelyn, Luke and a toddler.
"Uncle Jace, can you take Jacob for me?" Jocelyn asks Jace handing him the toddler who laughs adoringly and pulls on Jace's golden hair...---
Clary's POV
---"Uncle Jace, can you take Jacob for me?" My mom asks Jace handing him the toddler who laughs adoringly and tugs on Jace's golden hair.
"Clary! I haven't seen you in forever. Alec said you and Isabelle were taking a road trip across the continents." My mom says hugging me tightly.
"Something like that, uh... Jocelyn, let go of Clary please. She might pass out again, and I just did her hair and make-up." Isabelle says gently pulling my mom off of me.
I rub the back of my neck and explain, "Umm... I guess they haven't told you yet... I kind of just woke up from an a coma at like three this morning. I have been struggling with depression for the past two years, Mom, and when Iz and I came back yesterday Brother Zachariah and Tessa Grey put me in to a medically induced a coma so my mind could heal... uh... ah... yeah... oh! I needed to go ta-"
"Where are your tablets, Clary? You need to calm down, okay? Your alright. Your moms not going to hurt you." Isabelle says as she grabs my shoulders.
I reach a hand in to my pocket and pull out the anti-depressant tablets. I hand them to Isabelle and she opens it for me, handing me a tablet. I pop the tablet in my mouth and swallow. I close my eyes and take a deep breath.
"Okay... better." I say breathing out.
"Clary, I'm so sorry. I didn't know. Why do you look so thin?" My mom asks finally realizing my gear is loose, not hanging off my bones loose but loose enough to have small wrinkles in the fabric part.
"I lost half my body weight from two years ago. I'm getting better though. Don't worry." I say looking at my mom as Luke comes up from behind her.
Luke's hair had more streaks of grey through it now, but he still seemed young.
"Clary, it's good to see you kid. Don't bother explaining the whole thing over again and going in to another panic attack, I heard the whole thing. I'm sorry kiddo. I can't kill Jace can I?" Luke asks wrapping me in a fatherly hug.
"No, if he gets killed by one of us that's Isabelle's pleasure." I say elbowing my parabatai in the ribs as 'Uncle Jace' walks over with the toddler named Jacob.
"Clary, this is Jacob. He's your brother. Jakie this is your big strong sister Clary. You can call her Clary, okay?" Jace says pointing at me.
"Hi, Jacob." I say shaking Jacob's out reached hand in mine.
"I think he approves, hot head." Jace says handing Jacob back to my mother.
"Jace, I am armed, and if Clary is not willing to do anything I will. Just because she can stand the sight of you does not mean she is completely fine. She can still be hurt, Jace." Isabelle threatens putting her hand on the hilt of her kindjal.
"Cover Jacobs ears while I scold Isabelle." I say to no one in particular.
"Bloody hell, Iz. I can take care of the nitwits in my life easily. Besides I don't need any cobblers from you, too. So don't get me narked at you for fighting my battles. Chuffing heck!" I say shaking my head.
"Sorry, Clary. I'm used to it, so you aren't aloud to get narked t me." Isabelle retorts poking me in the ribs.
"Are you two done?" Jace asks looking from Jacob's covered ears to us.
"Yes." I say.
"I really didn't hear but one curse word in all of that." Jace says as the six of us walk back to the others.
"Trust me, Jace, they were cursing like sailors." Luke says patting Jace's shoulder.
Alec is laughing about something Magnus had said and Simon runs over and hugs Iz before we reach them.
He pulls back and says, "I've got to leave now. My carriage is waiting. I love you Isabelle. Oh, and all my stuff is packed and ready to go to London."
"Good, now get the heck out of here." I say pushing him towards the waiting carriage.
"I'm going, I'm going." Simon says getting in to the carriage.
"Come on, Clary. Our ride is here." Isabelle says as a carriage pulls up.
I get in and pull Isabelle up. She sits down and Jace hands me Jacob I take him and Jace pulls himself up in to the carriage. I sit down in the middle of the seat with Jacob as Jace helps my mom in. Jace pulls Jordan, Gabriela, Aline, and Adele in, and Max, Alec, Magnus, and Luke get in. Then, Luke pulls the door shut.
Jace sits down next to me and starts talking to Jacob. I laugh as Jacob hits Jace in the face with his open palm.
"Jakie, good hit. You got me, huh?" Jace asks laughing.
It seems like everyone else is quiet watching us talk to Jacob. Like they don't want to interrupt.
"Good hit, Jacob. High-five." I say holding up my hand.
Jacob smiles and high-fives me.
"Jaycy... grlfren?" Jacob asks looking from me to Jace.
"No. I wish, but she's just your sister." Jace says as I hand him to Jace.
Jace takes him as I close my eyes and take in a deep breath. I feel a hand reach in to my pocket and open my eyes to Jacob in my mom's arms and Jace pulling a tablet out of the battle of anti-depressants.
"Take it." Jace tells me.
I take it from his hand and put it in my mouth and swallow. I lay my hands in my lap and close my eyes again, leaning my head back.
I feel someone pick up both my hands to see one in Isabelle's hand and the other in Jace's.
"Better?" Jace asks looking at me worriedly.
I nod my head and say, "Better."
"Good, now, don't start freaking out or going in to a panic attack every time my name is mentioned." Jace says rubbing his thumb in circles on my hand.
"I'm not. I was having a panic attack for the exact opposite reason, Jace. Now, let go of my hand. I'm sure your girlfriend there beside you is pretty narked." I say pulling my hand free of his.
"Clary, switch seats with me." Isabelle says as we turn a corner.
I nod and we switch seats. Isabelle rubs my back soothingly. I stare out the window as everyone breaks in to their own conversations. Jace and Adele, who is narked at Jace. Alec, Max, and Isabelle, about London. Magnus and Luke, who are talking about downworlder business. Then, my mom is playing with Jacob. I'm just staring out the window.
"Adele, will you please be quiet. I don't care what you want, I still love Clary. That's the end of it. That's the end of us." Jace says louder than the low mumble they had been arguing in.
"Jace..." Adele trails off and says, "Fine, we're done then."
"Yep, we are." Jace says as if to finalize it.
After that conversation doesn't start up again until we arrive at the silent city. Jace jumps out with Alec and they help the women down. I'm last out, and Jace catches me as I jump down. The guys jump out and we walk down to the council room we had had mine and Izzy's parabatai ceremony in.
I smile to myself as I see Simon standing in the center of a ring of fire. I find Isabelle's right hand and squeeze it as we sit down with the rest of the council.
Alec takes his place at the podium and the council seats are taken. The silent brothers line the walls ready to help at any sign of trouble. Jace sits down next to me after helping secure the doors shut. He takes my hand as another conclave member hands Simon the Mortal Cup.
Simon says the oath of the shadowhunters and drinks from the cup. He hands the cup to the waiting shadowhunter, and falls to one knee. Jace squeezes my hand reassuringly as I do the same to Isabelle. After a few minutes Simon stands and Alec asks, "What family name do you take on?"
Simon looks around the room and his eyes land on me. The last Fairchild. He looks back at Alec and says, "Fairchild."
I stand as Alec says, "Any council member with the last name Fairchild, rise."
A small smile spreads across Alec's lips as he says, "Now, rise Simon Fairchild child of the Angel Raziel and of the race of Nephilim.... Clary his first runes."
Even though I was family I now did almost all ascension first runes. Though it had been awhile since we had had any ascensions anywhere.
I walk over to the blazing ring of fire and it dies down as Simon steps forward holding out his right hand.
I pull my stele from a pocket, and take his hand in mine. I draw a clarevoyance rune on the back of his right hand and flick his collar open to reveal his pail collarbone. I place an Angelic Power rune on it, and step back as the runes take effect. After a few minutes Simon pulls his glasses off and hands them to me.
I snap them in half as Alec ends the ceremony, and the doors are opened. Suddenly I am nearly knocked over by a blur of black hair and runes. Jace catches me as Isabelle launches in to the arms of her boyfriend.
"Can we talk?" Jace whispers in my ear.
"Yeah." I say, and we walk out to the now empty hallway.
"Clary, I still love you. I know I was an idiot and cheated on you, but I'm sorry. I just... please, take me back. I know I don't deserve a second chance, but I will be better this time. I promise." Jace says pleading with me.
"Jace, Jordan, Gabriela, Simon, Isabelle and I are going back to London tonight after dinner. That's my home now. I can't stay, and you can't come." I say shaking my head as my breathing quickens and my hands start trembling.
"Clary, calm down. You are fine. You are safe. You are here." Jace says.
I shake my head violently and my breathing starts to quicken even more.
Suddenly my hands are pinned to my side and Jace has me pinned to the wall. He presses his forehead to mine and says, "You. Are. Here. You are with me. Now, calm. Down."
I close my eyes and breathe in. I smell Jace, and that's it. My wrists break free of his grasp and slip around his waist.
"Just hug me. I need someone to hug me." I mumble as I press my face to his chest.
He pulls me against him, and I finally relax. I take in a deep breath and pull back.
"Better, thank you, Jace." I say as he loosely holds me in his arms.
He presses a soft kiss to my forehead and releases me. We walk up to the ground level, and the carriage is waiting on us. We get in Isabelle looks at me like I might all of a sudden break.
"You alright?" She asks as we pull off.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I say looking at her.
"What did Jace want to talk about?" She asks.
"What do you think?" I ask raising my eyebrows.
"Figures. We leave after dinner right?" Isabelle asks.
"Yeah, as soon as we are all done eating." I say looking at the people around the carriage.
"I thought you were staying all week, Clary? You said you would train me." Max says looking at me sadly.
"I know I did, Max, and I'm sorry. It's not good for me to stay in New York. It makes me feel bad, but I know Jace will train you. Won't you, Jace?" I ask looking from Max to Jace.
"Yeah, I promise I'll train you." Jace says reaching over and rubbing Max's jet black hair with his hand.
"How do I know you aren't just saying that to get your ex back, Jace?" Max asks raising an eyebrow.
"I swear on the Angel Raziel, I will train you after she leaves." Jace says rolling his eyes.
"Good." Max says siting back satisfied.
"So Jacob will be growing up without his sister." Jocelyn states.
"I never intended to stay. None of us did. We came for Simon. That's it." I say looking at my mom.
"We can always go visit, Jocelyn." Luke says patting my mom on the back lightly.
"I guess. I'm just going to miss my daughter." My mom says leaning against Luke.
We arrive at the institute a few minutes later, and everyone heads to change.
When Isabelle and I get up to our room I change into my regular hunting gear, which was the correct size for me.
"Well, we've got everything." Isabelle says.
"Yeah, let's take it down." I say picking up my two bags.
Isabelle nods, picks up her bags, and we take it down stairs to the library. After that we go to the dining hall where a display of food is covering the table.
I lean against the wall as everyone arrives and sits down. I'm the last standing, and everyone looks at me.
"I'll eat an apple." I say looking at Jordan who throws me an apple.
"What? Clary, come on. It's my ascension dinner." Simon whines as I bite in to my apple.
"Simon, you should be glad I'm eating this much. Don't complain about what you get. You are talking to a depressed girl, you know." I say taking another bite of my apple.
"Eat. I'll meet you guys in the library in about an hour." I say.
I turn to go out the door, and Jace is blocking my way.
"Come on, hot head, even if you don't eat you are sitting with us. This is the last time we will most likely see you. The last time I will probably see you. You are sitting down with all of us." Jace says pulling me towards the table.
I groan as Jace puts me in the open seat in between Izzy and him.
I lean against the table as everyone starts eating and talking about Simon's ascension.
"Clary, here eat." Jace says handing me a small plate of sandwiches that was being passed around the table.
"Jace..." I say taking the plate.
"It's not a request." Jace says giving me a stern look.
"And when did you get the power to control me? Never. I'm not eating." I say passing the plate to Isabelle.
"Stubborn." Jace says shaking his head.
"Nitwit." I say before biting in to my apple and finishing it off.
Jace and Isabelle finish eating and Iz tells Simon we are going to the library.
The three of us walk to the library in silence. Once we get there Jace leans against a lamp table and Isabelle and I stand waiting for the others. Jace stares at us from his table.
"Why do you have to go?" Jace asks standing fully up.
"Like I told Max earlier, it's not good for me to stay in New York. It hurts me to stay here. I was caused a lot of pain here, Jace, by a seventeen year old idiotic boy that thought he could cheat on me and get away with it." I say crossing my arms.
"That seventeen year old idiotic boy is now a nineteen year old man that knows better." Jace says walking over to me so that we are just a few inches apart.
"Yeah, well, it doesn't matter. I can't stay here anymore." I say as Alec walks in.
"I don't think Clary is actually vulnerable enough to let you hug her again, Jace. Also the others are coming right behind me." Alec says coming through the doors.
Jace jumps back as the others come through the door behind Alec. Simon sets his bags down as Jordan and Gabriela come in.
"You guys are going to have one empty Institute." Simon says fist bumping Alec and then Jace.
"Conclave members will fill in." Alec says shrugging his shoulders.
"Simon, you are washing that hand as soon as we get to London." I say looking at Jace.
"Will you two please just stop with the bitching." Magnus says rolling his eyes at us.
"Nope. Bye Magnus. You and Alec have to come visit sometime." I say hugging Magnus.
"We will, and we will bring your parents." Magnus says as he hugs Izzy and Simon.
"Wait! Sorry, your mom is putting Jacob down to bed. Did I make it?" Luke asks running in to the Library.
"Yes. Bye Luke." I say as Luke wraps Iz and I in a tight hug.
"Okay, guys we need to get going it is late back home." Isabelle says picking up her bags as Alec, Jace, and Max wrap her in a hug.
Max let's go of Izzy and jumps at me wrapping me in a bone crushing hug. Then the only person that I have to say goodbye to is Jace. I set to work drawing the portal, and then pick up my bags.
I face the portal and say, "See ya later, Blondie."
Then I jump through...
