Chapter6: Hunting
Michael's POV.
"Eddie, I'm not waiting any longer." I yelled, standing in the open front door. We only had a few hours before the sun came up again and I wasn't as prepared as the last time. I'd burn up in seconds if I were caught this time.
Eddie came running into the room then. "Let's go."
"What were you doing?" I asked, my curiosity getting the best of me.
"What do you mean?"
"Just now. Where were you?"
He shrugged. "Does it matter?"
I rolled my eyes. No matter how much I tried prying, I know he wouldn't tell me anything so I just dropped it and headed out the door.
Eddie shut the door behind him and we took off toward the woods. "Aren't you afraid that girl will run away?"
"Who, Mya? No, she'll be fine." I didn't have to worry too much about her. She stayed in the house when Eddie and I were there so I knew she wouldn't leave now. Besides, it was dark out. She wasn't dumb enough to leave, without any weapons, in the dark.
"If you say so." He mumbled, darting around a tree.
"What? You think she won't stay or something?"
He shrugged a shoulder. "I don't know. I just wouldn't trust a human."
"I think there's more to this."
Eddie sighed and glared in my direction. "What?"
"Why are you so against her being on her own? I know she's a human but still. You seem really pissed off with her or something." Eddie was such an open book.
"It just doesn't make sense that you would trust her like that."
"She's knows better than to leave."
He stopped dead in his tracks and turned his head up, sniffing into the air. His body tensed up.
I stopped too, my body going still. The scent of human blood filled my nose. It smelled good. But not entirely good. Somehow, Mya's was better.
Eddie and I spotted the human, a girl who was still alive, and went to her. I was mentally trying to find a way to take her before Eddie could. Though I was sure he'd be just as hungry as I was.
The girl whimpered when she saw us but didn't move. She had her head rested on her knees, her arms holding herself together. There was blood on her neck but it was dry. "Just make it fast."
When I glanced over at Eddie, he was already watching me, an interesting look on his face.
"You wanna keep her?" He asked, eyebrows raised.
I couldn't help but laugh. "Are you serious?"
He nodded. "Why not? You have Mya. I don't have anyone."
I rolled my eyes. "She's all yours. But you owe me one for blood."
He grin. "That shouldn't be too hard. I have connections." He walked over to the girl and knelt down in front of her.
She whimpered, hiding her face from him.
"You're coming back with us, all right? We'll keep you safe."
"No!" She screamed and tried fighting him, tears in her eyes.
He held her still long enough to look in her eyes and whisper something to her. Seconds later, she relaxed against him, her eyes closing. He compelled her to sleep. Smart move.
"Let's go." He said, picking the girl up in his arms bridal style. "I don't know how long she'll be asleep."
The girl was nuts. It was stupid of Eddie to take her. The second we got back to my house, she woke up and freaked out. Apparently, she wasn't used to being in a vampire's house without being fed from. You'd think she'd be happy about that. But no.
She resented us for it.
"Let me go!" She screamed, her hands balled into fists at her sides. She was standing, cornered, in the living room, with Eddie and I surrounding her.
"You're not thinking straight." Eddie said, holding his hands out in surrender. "We don't want to hurt you."
"You're vampires, why wouldn't you want to hurt me?"
She sounded so much like Mya.
"You won't be any good to us dead."
"Why can I do alive? I'm useless. You both know it, I know it..."
Eddie sighed and glanced at me. "What do we do?"
I crossed my arms over my chest. "Don't kill her. That's what she wants."
"What next?"
"Keep her here. Or wherever you're staying. She can be your slave."
"Slave? No, no way. Either kill me or let me go. I'm not staying with you."
"You think you have a choice?" I growled. I walked up to her and took her chin in my fingers.
She narrowed her eyes, not backing down. "Get away from me."
"You really want to die? You don't even want a chance to live?"
"I have nothing to live for. And you stupid vampires won't even let me have my freedom. What's the point in trying to live?"
Behind me, Mya slowly emerged from the basement, her movements slow and cautious.
"You have another human here? Oh my gosh." She said, rolling her eyes.
"If you knew what was good for you, you'd keep your mouth shut about her." I growled, holding her gaze until she had to look away.
"She's probably your sex slave." The girl whispered, her eyes staying on Mya.
I pushed her up against the wall and got just an inch from her face. "Shut. Up."
"Or what?" She whispered, a smile on her face. "You'll kill me?"
I grabbed a fist of her hair and started pulling her toward the basement. Mya stepped out of the way quickly, her eyes widened.
"Let go of me!" The girl screamed, both of her hands trying to pry mine from hers.
I tightened my grip on her, starting to get mad at her for not listening to me better. Mya was stubborn but not as bad as this girl was.
She twisted in my grasp and got free. She lunged at Mya and knocked her to the ground, her fist pulled back to hit Mya.
I grabbed her hand and twisted it until her wrist broke. Then I threw her off Mya and stood over her, my eyes blazing with anger. "Touch her again and that wrist won't be the only thing broken."
I walked over to Mya and picked her up in my arms. Then, without another word or glance, I left and went to my room.
