Chapter5: Bed
Mya's POV.
Eddie seemed nice. Though he was a vampire and I wasn't sure I could trust him. But he was friends with Michael.
Once I was out of the kitchen, and out of earshot, I headed toward the steps and went to the second floor. I'd never been there so I didn't know what was behind each door. I opened the first door and saw a simple guest room. The second door opened up to a huge library that was half the size of my entire house. It was stacked floor to ceiling with books of every size and genre.
I walked over to one of the shelves and looked at the spines of the books. I didn't see any romance books though that didn't surprise me. Michael was cold blooded, both physically and emotionally.
I took a book on Abe Lincoln and sat down on the floor. I didn't know how long I'd be on my own but I wanted to take advantage of it.
I flipped through the book and sighed. Nothing was holding my attention. I couldn't stop thinking about Michael. What was wrong with me?
"I'm not going to hurt you."
I jumped and almost screamed. Standing in the doorway was Eddie.
He held his hands up in surrender. "I just want to talk to you."
"Why?" I asked softly.
He shrugged a shoulder. "I'm bored."
"You think I'll entertain you?"
"Just because you're human doesn't mean you're boring." He said, reading my thoughts.
I didn't say anything. What could I say to that? Being a human was nothing compared to being a vampire, especially since vampires were in charge.
He walked into the room and stopped a few feet away from me. "Do you like living with Michael?"
The answer was pretty clear so I kept my mouth shut.
He sat down on the floor and rested his arms on his knees. "I'd rather not have to do this but if you won't talk to me, I'll have to get in your head."
"Why are you talking to me?"
"I want to get to know you."
"Won't Michael be mad?"
"So what if he is?"
I could think of a million things Michael would do if we made him mad. Killing me was at the very top.
"Relax, Mya. I won't let him hurt you."
Holding his gaze, seeing how sincere he was being, made me want to believe him. I couldn't tell if he was compelling me or not.
I pulled my knees up to my chest and brushed my super dirty hair away from my face. "Things could be worse."
He sighed. "Humans shouldn't settle."
"What am I supposed to do? Confront him about it and risk getting killed?"
"He wouldn't kill you."
"Get real, Eddie."
"I'm as real as I can get." He said, holding my gaze.
I shook my head.
He sighed and got to his feet. "We're going to change things."
"Wait, what are you going to do?" I asked, jumping to my feet. Fear coursed through me.
"You think I'm going to sit by while you're miserable?" Why does he care about me?
"Please don't, Eddie. I don't want him mad at me."
"He won't be mad at you. He'll hate me for sticking up for you but-"
"No, he'll be mad at me for being in this situation. You think he wants to deal with you defending me? Probably not."
"That's ridiculous, Mya."
"Is it?"
He sighed. "You shouldn't let him treat you like this."
"What am I supposed to do then?"
"Let me handle things, okay? He'll listen to me."
I shook my head. "Eddie-"
He just smiled at me. "Trust me, Mya. Pretend I'm not a vampire and trust me."
That was easier said than done.
