On the previous chapter...

Then-

A noise.

Something creaked behind us. A soft thud. Then... a giggle?

We both froze.

Then came a sharp whisper: "Immanuel stop, oh my god-".

Federico blinked. I blinked.

We turned, slow, horrified.

Cecilia's voice. Muffled. Another thud. More giggling. A very familiar, smug laugh.

Federico covered his face with both hands.

"Oh no". I whispered.

"They can't be real". He muttered.

We scrambled off each other like guilty teenagers. I nearly fell over the edge.

"If you two are done making out where people eat?" Cecilia called sweetly.

"You are literally one balcony away from the steering wheel". I shouted back.

"You were on the bow!"

"That's basically the hood of the ship-".

"You're both unwell". Federico grumbled, but he was smiling.

I bumped my shoulder against his. "Wanna make out somewhere else?"

"I think we'll get caught no matter what".

ʚ FEDERICO'S POV ɞ

I've survived a thousand dangerous missions, but I'm starting to think the real threat is this group on vacation.

"Watch your head!" I shouted, steering the boat toward the narrow mouth of the cove.

"I am watching it!" Jacques called back from the roof, where he had no business being.

"I meant everyone else's!" I yelled again.

Behind me, a chorus of complaints and chaos echoed through the boat as we approached the hidden lagoon.

It wasn't on any map, but I'd come here years ago on a tip from someone I absolutely did not trust. Turns out, it was one of the few good decisions I'd made in my early twenties.

"Are we being smuggled?" Divine muttered, ducking under a hanging vine.

"This is definitely smuggling". Seraphina agreed, holding onto her sunhat like it was a military medal.

Cecilia, perched beside Immanuel on the bench seat, smirked. "Technically, it's just an off-grid marine sanctuary".

"Technically". Silvio drawled,. "You were moaning last night like you were being haunted".

A beat.

Everyone went silent.

Cecilia blinked once. Immanuel's entire body tensed beside her.

"Excuse me?" She said, voice dangerously sweet.

"Oh come on". Silvio continued, leaning against the railing with that smug grin he wore like cologne. "We all heard it. The banging. The giggling. Oh my god, Nico-".

"Silvio". I warned, half-laughing.

He ignored me. "Oh Nico-". He said in a high-pitched voice, clutching his own chest dramatically.
