Chapter 3 ~ A Secret Spilled

(Jessica's last full day in Sydney.)

My eyes flicker open when I hear my phone ring. I grab it from the ground and swipe the screen, not looking at the caller ID.

"Hello?" I say.

"Hi!" A voice perks.

"Morning Jess." My eyes were still closed.

"Good morning to you too. Are you still asleep? It's 8!"

"You know me well enough to know I sleep until like 10, or later." I mumble.

"Yeah yeah, now get up! Meet me at the park, we're spending the whole day together!" That perks me up.

"See you there." I wait for her to end.

"Aren't you gonna end?" She asks.

"Okay, but at least I get the last word!" I quickly press end before she can say anything. I kick my sheets off the bed and get up. I swing my legs over the side, one by one and stand up. Walking over to the door, I swing it open and see Mali listening to music in her room.

"Look who's up." She smirks, pulling out her earbuds.

"Yeah, I'm gonna go out with Jess today. She says for the whole day so.. I need to get ready." I say.

"Wow, waking up this early for Jess? You must love her." Mali jokes.

I smile. "Yeah.. I do. I love Jessica Robins." Mali grins and shakes her head.

"Whatever you say bro." She puts her earbuds back into her ears and I head downstairs to eat some Lucky Charms. I see Mum standing in the kitchen with a frown. She's talking to someone on the phone. I stop in my tracks, eyebrow raised. She spots me and says bye to whoever she was talking to.

"What was that about?" I ask as I grab the Lucky Charms cereal box.

"So.. She hasn't told you?" Who's Mum talking about.

"Who?"

"No one." She shakes her head quickly.

"Mum.." I start.

"Jessica, she hasn't told you." Mum states.

"Told me what?" I ask.

"Just ask her, I'd rather have her tell you."

"Okay.. But who were you talking to?" I point to the phone.

"Jessica's mum, Katherine Robins. She just told me some news that Jess should tell you about. Just ask her about moving."

My eyes widen. "She's moving?"

"You know to much from me already." Mum walks out of the kitchen and while I stand there shocked. I skip breakfast and head upstairs to change. Jessica and I need to talk.

I see Jessica sitting on the swings looking at the sky. I approach her.

"Hey." I say as I sit down on the swing next to her.

"Hey, whatcha wanna do today?" Should I bring up the question?

"Actually.. Can I ask you something?" I'll find a different way to go to this topic.

"What?"

"Why are we spending the whole day together today?" I ask.

"Because I haven't seen you in 3 days." She says it like it's nothing.
