*Year and a half later*
*Sawyer's POV*
He's practically dead already. His skin was already turning grey and he barely talked or really do anything for that matter. He was just a fragment of a body in a bed. He wanted to die in the house rather than the hospital, so the hospital discharged him days ago and now is home.
I had Kinsley on my lap as I sat by Keeton's bed. I didn't want to move from my spot. The only time that I ever did was when I had to feed Kinsley.
"Can you talk to me? Just for a little while?" I asked him.
He hasn't talked in days and it was really bothering me because I wanted us to say our goodbyes.
"Give me your hand." He instructed hoarsely, softly.
I gave him my hand immediately. His hand was cold against mine and he strained his eyes so that he could stare into mine.
"I want to thank you for being such an incredible friend and wife. You have done so much for me... I-I don't know how to explain the gratitude and love that I have for you. I love you so much. I love you so much that I was selfish and took you as my own when you should have been with him. Just... thank you, baby. Thank you for letting me selfish and having you as my wife for almost three years. You mean so much to me. Kinsley means so much to me. I love you. I love you both so much." Keeton managed to say although his voice was strained.
He was now crying. It was the most emotion that he showed in weeks. A tear fell down my eye the more that his words sunk in. He always told me that he loved me, but it hurt the most then because I couldn't say it back.
"Kinsley, baby." Keeton said softly diverting his attention towards our daughter.
She diverted her attention to him with a big smile on her face oblivious to the condition of her father.
"Daddy." She said happily.
I smiled at her brightness. He smiled at her and patted the small space next to him. She jumped onto the bed and crawled next to him and snuggle against his frail arm.
"You take care of Mommy, okay? You watch over her and you make sure that she is always happy and full of love, okay? Daddy loves you but he has to go soon." Keeton bit back the tears that wanted to fall.
"Daddy go where?" Kinsley asked sounding sad.
He let out a shaky exhale.
"Daddy has to go to a place far away from here where there's big fluffy clouds and rainbows and it's warm and has so many beaches. Daddy will be okay, I promise. I'm going to watch over you and Mommy all of the time and I'll always be in here." Keeton explained to her as he put his finger on her chest to point to her heart. "Now what did I say, sweetheart?"
"Watch Mommy so she not sad." Kinsley exclaimed.
Keeton held out his pinky, and she took it between her tiny pinky.
"No take backs." Keeton nodded.
Kinsley shook her head and replied, "No take backs."
I was crying heavily then. I wish with everything within that I could tell Keeton what he wanted to hear. That I could tell him that I loved him, but I couldn't.
He knew that he was going to die that night and he did. He died in his sleep. That first time that he slept peacefully ever since he got sick.
