Okay, so I have this friend. He's an anti-social penguin. And his name is Robby, but I call him Rob sometimes just to bug him. Aren't I the greatest friend (p.s. don't answer that.)
So this is how we met. Like all great middle school tales, this one starts in the gymnasium full of acne faced teenagers with bad haircuts (jk). Any who, my tale begins now...
"I fricking hate gym. SO. BADLY." I whined to John.
John gave me a mean side glare. "It's the first day and you're already complaining."
"Yep." I said, popping out the 'p'. "It's so stupid."
"Dude, I hate gym too. But we have to do it whether we like it or not. Besides, we're not even doing anything today. It's the first day." John starts waking towards a group of unfamiliar people, these people will later on be know as "The Outcast".
I cling to John's arm like a child. "John, where are you going?" He simply points to the people. "But, I don't know them."
"Then, get to know them."
"Are you asking me to socialize?" I ask, I was genuinely terrified. "What if they don't like me?"
John stopped walking, put both his hands on my shoulders, and looked me in my eyes. "Elijah. You. Sound. Like. A. Chick. Stop worrying so much, they'll love you."
I looked over at the group as if they were a lost tribe, with their friendly faces and... BOOKS. "Hurry up they're reading. This is the perfect chance to see bookworms in action." John rolled his eyes and walks further. I still cling to his arm.
"Hey, John." said Paul (we will soon find this to be Germany. But that's for another time). "Sup, Elijah."
"Hey, Paul." I said in a loud enough voice not to draw attention to myself. Too late.
Everything happened so fast, it was a blur of black and light brown. Suddenly I had a person's face about two inches from mine. I'm sure I looked very frightened (my eyes were wide and my mouth formed a perfect 'O', and I was practically suffocating John's arm) because the mysterious person started laughing at me.
Way too go, Elijah. Nice way to make a fool of yourself.
When his whole laughing episode was over he looked me, tracing my facial features with his eyes. I took the time to do the same.
He was, to say the least, pretty hot dude. His bangs touched his eyebrows. Even though he was standing directly in front of me I could tell I was at least an inch or two taller than him.
His hair was a nice blend of black and light brown (That explains why I those colors in my moment of confusion), it stopped about halfway down his neck (I observed this later in the day).
He finally backed up a bit. "Who's this?"
"I'm Elijah." I said holding out the proper fist for a fist bump.
"I'm Robby." He didn't leave me hanging. Respect.
"OKAY, STUDENTS TIME TO PICK YOUR LOCKER PARTNERS!" shrieked the gym teacher, who I swear was out to get me my entire time at gym.
I immediately look up at John as Paul pulls him away. "John." I whimmered.
"I told Paul I would be his locker partner."
I couldn't be mad at him or Paul. I was mad at myself. Why hadn't I ask him sooner?
I glanced around and it seemed like everyone has a locker partner. All but one.
Robby.
"Hey, Robby. You're my locker partner now." I said quickly.
His face twisted into a mischievous grin. "Okay."
I was taken by surprise, I expected him to reject me. He locked my arm in his and pulled me to the teacher like we were old buddies going for a nice stroll. "Thanks for being my partner, Rob."
He made a fake, hurt expression. "It's Robby. Don't you ever call me 'Rob' again. Do you hear me young man?"
This time I did the mischievous grin. "Okay." I said, and quietly added, "Rob."
