Promises. They are a funny thing. They are like a test. A test to see if you're worthy enough for someone else's trust. But if you break a promise, then you've also broken someone else's trust.

When Eric and I were kids, we would always make these silly little promises to each other. But we never broke them. Not once.

But you know, it's funny how things turn out.

There's one promise that I'll never forget. One promise, that I broke. But Eric doesn't know that I broke it.

It was back in 5th grade, before all that tragic stuff happened. Eric and I were up in our special place, like we always were. We were laying down, staring at the ceiling. Eric looks at me and smiles.

"Why are you looking at me creep?" I said with a laugh while getting up.

"We have to make a promise to each other." Said Eric.

"Eric, we make promises to each other all the time."

"I know, but this one's important."

"Fine, what is it?"

"We have to promise to tell each other everything. No matter how hard it is to say, and no matter how bad it is. No secrets." Said Eric looking serious.

"I promise," I said holding out my pinky.

Eric conjoined his pinky with mine and we laughed.

I never thought that, that promise could be so easy to break. But it was.

I don't know why it was so hard for me to come out and say that I was in love with Eric. But it was the hardest thing I could ever do. Which is funny, because I haven't even done it yet.
