Harbringer
By: James Jordan
Everything started in a small shed near the old heritage church on a rainy afternoon in the last day of July.
I was so stupid that I got stuck alone in this shed under this terrible weather because of my neglect to not bring an umbrella.
"I'm not good with time, but if you ask me, this rain would stop after 50 minutes." a shady old man suddenly appeared behind where I was standing.
I was surprised that this man suddenly appeared before me when I knew that I was alone at that waiting shed—I was about ignore him and walk away, but there was a strange feeling that I know this guy.
I felt that he is like my relative of some sort, like my uncle or something, but I can't quite put my finger on it.
"Why are you so sure that this rain would end after 50 minutes?"
"—because I've been here before. It was also on a rainy day like this."
"Liar."
"Anyway, do you want to know something interesting?"
"..."
"I'll tell you anyway... I can predict the future—your future. Do you want to know?"
"I think you're just bluffing, but I'll listen to you anyway since I think the rain won't be stopping anytime soon."
—and then he started to tell my personal information, from my name to where I lived. At first, I thought he was just looking at the information on my ID, but he then started to tell me about my secrets... secrets that only I know.
I tried asking him how did he know things about me, but he just continued to talk—
Then he said something about my future that shocked me.
"You will kill your future wife 11 years from now and you will be imprisoned for the rest of your life."
My first reaction was he was just trying to play me to kill time, but when I looked at him he was dead serious with his words.
I listened to his prediction very carefully even though I was still doubtful—after he finished his explanation about my future, he gave me a picture of my 'future wife' with the date and place where I will meet her for the first time, and the date and place where I will kill her.
I looked at the back of the picture and I saw the following information:
Meet Griselda, December 12, 2022 at the Silent Sanctuary Memorial Park.
Kill Griselda, May 13, 2026 at Holiday Hotel, Room 407.
This means that roughly 7 years from now I would meet this woman Griselda, and after 4 years, I will kill her—this is insane!
I was really doubtful about him because he kept on looking on his watch, and he looks very anxious. So I just went with the flow of our conversation and accepted his motion.
"Well I think 50 minutes is almost over, so I guess you should start going home—remember, be careful of your dad."
I was about to tell him that it was still raining, but the rain suddenly stopped, so I directly went home because I got creeped out by him.
When I got home, I was very excited to tell my mom and dad about this man that I met that could predict the future. I've even shown them the picture of my future wife that he gave me. Mom just laughed at me, dad was really supportive. He even asked me if that man could predict his future.
