Dan's POV:

I scrolled through my laptop looking at the most recent things on Tumblr when my phone ringed. I glanced down at my phone and saw it was Ema. I plopped up from the sofa with a groan. 

Hey Dan! Could we postpone the date for another time? I'm kinda busy with a few things and I'm a bit tired. Maybe tomorrow and the next day is a little better. Looking forward to it, not gonna lie ;). But um don't come over. I kinda need a power nap. See ya later, Howell.

I frowned but texted a reply, nonetheless. 

Hello Howard. Sorry to hear that. Go get some rest. We can postpone it or tomorrow if that's ok with you. I'll leave you too it then. Looking forward to it too. Come over if you need anything.

I send the message after putting thought into it.  That was oddly weird. Why didn't she want me to see her? I decided to take a walk.

"Phil? I'm gonna go for a walk? Coming?" I yelled

"Yeah! Let me just put on a shirt" he yelled back. I put my phone in my pocket and grabbed my coat. Phil came over wearing his adventure time jacket and nodded.

"Have you spoken to Ema?" I asked

"Uh, yeah. Yesterday. Why?" he asked. I shrugged and opened the door. I heard a muffled scream from outside and glanced at Phil who looked back at me cautiously. "What was that?" I asked. We walked down the stairs, warily. 

"Maybe we should go back" Phil suggested. I shook my head and kept walking. He sighed and followed. I stopped in my tracks and called Ema. Now Phil also looked as  worried. No response.

"Dan...who do you think...screamed outside?" Phil breathed, shakily. He was as worried as I was. 

"Ema told me not to come over when I texted her" I replied. Phil opened the door as we stepped outside. My heart beat

Phil cracked his knuckles as if preparing for something. I gulped and walked, cautiously. 

"Dan" Phil said.

I turned and saw a splotch of blood on the cement. I glanced back at him. I realized my heart was beating faster than I'd realized.

Another snarky comment was heard but closer this time coming from the left side of our apartment. "Ema" I breathed and walked quicker. Phil followed closely behind. 

"Please let me go" a girl said. The voice felt recognizable. 

"Oh my god, Dan. It's...it's E-"

"Ema" I finished. Anger boiled inside me. 

"No you're coming with me, slut" the dark voice answered. Phil quickened his pace now closer behind me.  

"Dan" Ema breathed. I could see it now. The man with a dark coat and an intoxicated Ema next to him. 

"Step away from the girl or I will call the police" I demanded, angrily. The man turned to face me, shocked by my sudden presence. 

"Why should I do that?" he asked. 

"Because you hurt her, you jerk" I replied, simply. 

"But why? the slut looked real intoxicated. Are you her friend? You know, if you hadn't interfered if could have easily already been inside h-" 

I punched him as hard as I could straight on the nose. Blood rushed down his face. He laughed darkly and dried it on his coat. I punched him again on the jaw. From the side, I could see Phil dragging unconscious Ema out of the scene.
