When we got to the restaurant, we got settled, and I was seated in between Shawn and Aaliyah, sitting across from Manny.
When Shawn finished contemplating his dinner options and put in his order, he got on his phone. I wasn't paying any attention to him, though, as I was busy conversing with Aaliyah about the drama at her school, and how she couldn't wait for school to come back because she missed her friends. I agreed with her. I did want school to come back, but that was only because I missed having something to do with my life. Although, the friend part-- well, I don't necessarily have any friends besides Shawn, as you are aware. I still don't know about Leah, but I certainly would rather not get back into that topic.
Aaliyah was telling me all about the kids at her school, which was interesting to hear. "And there's this other girl, her name--"
"Um... Olivia?" Shawn interjected, slowly raising his eyes to meet mine.
"Hold on a sec, Aaliyah," I said, turning to Shawn. "What's wrong?"
"Come to the bathroom with me, now." he declared, standing up as his seat scooted backwards.
"What? There isn't unisex bathrooms. Are there?" I questioned as his fingers wrapped around my wrist, forcefully pulling me upwards.
"Just come here," he commanded, dragging me away from the table as pain struck through my arm when his grip tightened.
I tried to pull my arm away. "Ow! Shawn, you're hurting me!" I whined, and he quickly released my wrist as we arrived to the bathroom hallway.
"I'm so sorry," he said as he gently lifted my hand and gently kissed the skin of my wrist.
"It's fine. So what's the problem? You literally just dragged me away from your parents and across the entire restaurant so this better be good."
"Someone was texting me." he said shakily.
"That's not unusual. Elaborate?"
"It was Evelyn, Olivia. Evelyn texted me."
"Evelyn-- you're ex-girlfriend Evelyn?" I was in shock. I honestly thought she had dropped off the edge of the planet.
"No, Evelyn the porn star." he snapped, sarcastically,"Yes, Evelyn my ex-girlfriend!"
"Well, my god, no need to be sassy about it," I shrugged.
"I'm sorry, I'm just overwhelmed,"
"Yea, I get it, whatever. Alright, well? What did she say?!" I compelled.
He pulled his phone out of a pocket on his hoodie, unlocking it and opening their messages.
"Hurry," I urged as he scrolled upwards rapidly.
"Okay, here's what she texted me, five minutes ago. Here, read the whole conversation." he demanded, handing over his phone.
Evelyn: Hey, Shawn.
Shawn: Oh, Evelyn... hi
Evelyn: How r u?
Shawn: I'm great. I'm really great, actually
Evelyn: Oh cool
Shawn: So... why are u texting me?
Evelyn: Because I miss u.
Shawn: Oh
Evelyn: Btw I saw videos of ur concert on Twitter..
Already? Damn, news does travel quickly on the Internet. I thought. Anyway, back to the conversation:
Evelyn: You're really good
Shawn: Thank you
Evelyn: Yea lol
Shawn: ... So
Evelyn: Hey, can we meet up tomorrow? I want to clear things up with you. And maybe we can... Work things out?
And that was the end of their conversation. Shawn hadn't replied.
"Wha--" I yelled, being interrupted by a little old lady waddling out of the lady's room. She shot both me and Shawn a glare as she squeezed in between us, staring us down before she left the hallway and proceeded into the restaurant.
"What?" I continued.
"I know, right? I don't know what I should say!" he said.
I thought on it for a second. "Here, let me take care of this," I said, typing into his phone before pressing send."I have a plan."
Shawn widened his eyes as I returned his phone to him and he read the message I sent.
"Guys, your food is here, and mom and dad want you back at the table," Aaliyah said as she entered the hallway, gesturing for us to follow her back to the table. We obeyed, finding ourselves back in our seats with meals on the table in front of us.
"Where did you kids go?! Is everything alright?" Karen asked worriedly.
"U-uh, we're fine!" I stuttered.
"Yea, I just wasn't feeling well. I'm fine now." Shawn covered, flashing a grin at me.
"Oh, did you get sick?" Manny asked, sipping his drink.
"No, we're fine. Anyway, so dad! How's work going?" Shawn changed the subject.
Manny started rambling on and on about work, and it wasn't that I didn't care, but my mind was only focused on the whole Evelyn thing, and the plan I had; hoping it would play out like I wanted it to. It had to.
"Oh yea, Shawn, Aaliyah, your dad and I were wondering if you guys wanted to go to the zoo tomorrow. It's been a while since we've had some family time, just us together." Karen mentioned.
"Actually, Olivia and I had plans... but you guys can go?" Shawn responded, a guilty look on his face.
Karen sighed heavily. "Oh... Well, sure, of course! We'll just have a family dinner tomorrow night! And Olivia, don't think you're not family to us, it's jus--"
"No, I understand! It's completely okay." I jumped in. Even better, now the Mendes' will be out of the house, and the plan should unwind perfectly.
