I followed Marc up the stairs. We passed nearly five rooms until we finally stopped. The window shades were down so it further darkened the room. Then Marc moved to my left and flipped the switch. The whole room lit up. There were two shelves to my left made to store books and files. Underneath the shelves were Macs. It all looked so professional and clean.

Then he pulled up the shades and revealed the beautiful scenery outside. I could see the greens of the trees and in the distance, the skyscrapers which reached far into the sky.

I didn't think his house was so big until I got to this floor. It looked so pretty outside. I felt like capturing the moment by taking a picture but I resistrd the urge to.

"You can sit either on the sofa or by the Macs," Marc said.

I didn't even notice the blue sofa on the side of the room. It contrasted nicely with the yellow and white colors of the wall.

"I don't mind. We can sit anywhere."

"Ok then, we'll sit on the Macs and do some research then we will decide a topic."

"Sounds good," I said.

We walked to the seats and we started up the Macs.

"So what do you want our project to be on?" I asked.

"Maybe biology or a social experiment."

"What do you mean by a social experiment?" I asked.

"What if we do an experiment to see how high school students studies are being effected by their daily lives? It would be cool, right?" He asked.

He is so smart, I thought to myself. I didn't know he was so interested in science.

"That's actually pretty cool. We can get statistics and make it all work out. But how will we do this?"

"Well we can go around and interview, I guess?" He says.

"What if no one agrees to give an interview?" I ask.

"I'll get my friends to talk."

I smirked. He has so many friends that he could probably get the whole school to give him an interview, I thought to myself.

"Well then that's good," I said.

There was an awkward silence between us until Marc finally broke it.

"This project can work because it is relatable. I got to be honest but school's hard sometimes. With the tests, games, and Breonna, it's so hard to do good or accomplish anything."

"Breonna? I thought she was very cool. Like I've heard she's a pretty nice girlfriend and all."

My whole point of continuing the coversation and steering it to another direction was to get him to talk about her. It obviously seemed as if they were having problems.

"She is like Godzilla encaged in a pretty girl's body. One moment she's happy, the other she's crying. I don't get her sometimes."

"It's the hormonal changes which are probably making it worst for you. She'll be fine soon. It happens to every girl once in a while."

"No, no. They aren't hormonal changes. She tells me that if she wants me to go with her somewhere I have to..."

Suddenly, Marc stopped talking.

Out of curiousity, I asked, "What happened?"

"Nah. It's better if I keep it to myself."

Inside my head, I was screaming. TELL ME MORE...TELL ME MORE!

"It's okay. You'll feel better once you get it out. You can trust me."

"She expects me to live up to the standards of someone who would hang out with her. I can't live like that. And she's about to move so she's trying to convince me to move with her to her new private school."

"Oh gosh! That's really....really bad. Just do what you feel is right. If you don't feel okay with her, then you can't sacrifice your happiness. She should understand how you feel. If you don't feel comfortable with Breonna, then you're going to have to tell her eventually. Or else it will eat you up inside."

Oh my god! What the hell did I just say? He's going to know I like him now.

"I've never had someone who could understand me for once. Thank you Nina. Seriously, thank you very much. You are a great friend."

He moved over and then hugged me.

AHHHHHHH! MARC IS HUGGING ME. HUGGING ME. HOW COULD THIS GET ANY BETTER?

"Can I ask you one last question, Nina?"

"Sure."

"Sorry I'm troubling you so much but can you tutor me again? I need some help in math."

THIS JUST GOT BETTER. I'M THE LUCKIEST GIRL EVER.

"Its okay. I'll tutor you."

"Thank you so much. You're the best."

I could feel myself blushing so I quickly stopped and turned over to the Mac and started working.

About a half and hour later, we decided we were done for the day.

"We've got a topic. We will start working tomorrow," Marc said.

"I can meet after my English class. I'll go to the lab after."

"I'll be there too. Do you have a ride?"

"My house is just a few minutes away. I can just walk there."

"Oh no. It's too dark Nina. I'll get the keys and drop you home."

"It's okay. I can go."

"Nina," he said and then suddenly started gazing into my eyes. "I'll drop you. Consider it my thank you."

"Okay. I guess."

The car ride was very quiet and we didn't say a word. When my house finally arrived, Marc said, "You have a nice house."

"Thanks."

"Well then I'll see you tomorrow Nina. And just please don't tell anyone about Breonna. I trust you."

"Your secret is safe with me. Bye." I smiled at him and then shut the door.

Today was the best day ever.
