It was Marc. The familiar voice belonged to Marc.
I managed to reply and said, "Hey. I'm doing good."
"Which science class were you put into? Mr. Franklin put me into the easy Biology class. He said that even though I did beast on my final, I didn't complete my homework assignments. Apparently, according to him, I would do better in an easier class."
"Oh really?" I responded. "I never liked Mr. Franklin myself. He never realizes the full potential of a student. But for some reason, he put me into the hard class. I didn't do all of my classwork yet he still put me into the harder class."
Am I talking too much?, I thought to myself.
"Oh wow, you're lucky," Marc said.
"What classes are you taking?" I asked pretending I didn't know his schedule even though I knew it inside out.
"I'm taking Calculus, Geography, English, and Science Research."
"Oh really, you're taking Research too?" I asked.
"Yup."
We briefly had to pause our conversation because the lunch line started to move. Or should I saw crawl.
Great, more time to talk.
"I wonder if this may work," Marc randomly blurts out.
"What? What can work?"
"What if we do a science research project together? We already make beast of partners and with my tech skills and your smarts, we can make an awesome project. What do you say?" he says.
My mind was blown away and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. First, he complimented us as partners and then he asked me to basically work with him again. Hopefully, this time, we would get closer.
"I'm in. When do you want to meet up to disuss our project?"
"Well I don't have any periods off and my teacher wouldn't like me leaving her class to go discuss with someone outside the classroom. How about you come to my place and we decide something?"
We were now almost in the front of the line. Any moment now, he would go off leaving again.
"Sure. When should I come?"
"Probably around 6."
"Okay. 6 it is."
Just when we were almost at the front of the line, he asked me one last thing.
"What's your number?"
I was immediately going to answer him but I was confused why he needed it.
"Why do you need my number?"
"So I can text you my address."
"Ohh ok. It's 975-685-4789."
"Ok. I'll see you later," he said.
Am I daydreaming? To make sure, I pinched myself on my arm and realized everything was actually happening.
As soon as I gave money to the lunch lady, I looked over towards Marc and saw him smiling. Pretending it wasn't a big thing, I smiled back and walked to my table.
"Was Marc just talking to you?" asked Jasmine.
"YESSSSS!" I exclaimed.
"What did he say?" asked Sherry.
"He wants to be my science research partner. He took my number and will be texting me his address so I can come over."
"Wow your pretty talented Nina. You haven't had the confidence to talk to this guy and instead he comes over to you and talks to you first. Not only that he asks you for your number. And in a few hours you will be meeting each other. Good for you," said Jasmine.
Sherry put her hand up to give me a high-five and I immediately gave her a return high-five.
Tonight will be amazing.
