With every preceding hour, my heart kept increasingly aching waiting to see what would happen next. I had managed to stay out of Marc's radar and the last thing I wanted to do was attract his attention towards myself.
After seeing Breona's anger fit, I really wanted to avoid everyone. Like every single person. Until I got to my English class.
I was walking in the hallway until someone came up behind me and tapped my shoulders. It was Breona.
"Why are you still here? At least it's better to see you without having Marc follow you around everywhere. Literally you two better call it quits with whatever is cooking up."
"Breona I don't have time to hear you say these false rumors. Do you really think I like Marc? Because it's time you hear what is right."
In my mind, I knew exactly what was true. I really liked Marc. No lies about that. Every time I saw him, my heart fluttered a bit and I suddenly became excited. It's the truth. But to say all this to Breona would mean social suicide and the murder of my reputation.
"I don't like Marc. In fact, I don't even like him as a friend forget thinking of him as a love interest. You are a cheerleader. He's a jock. You too are ideal for each other. Do you really think I would want to interfere with that? If you don't think that's clear enough, then the shame is on you. All you care about is yourself Breona. For once think of things besides how you perceive it to be like! Before you start ranting about something else, my class is here and I need to go educate myself and make something out of my life. At least then I won't have to ask my daddy for anything and have my own self respect unlike some other people if you know who I mean."
In my anger, I quickly turned into the classroom. With the corner of my eyes, I tell Breona was staring at me.
What just happened??
I realized that I had by far just made her much more angry then however much she already was. I'd just fed more flames to an already burning wildfire. This would all end horribly now and it was sure to happen.
I took a seat in the furthest back of the room and made sure to stay or if everyone's radars. If I attracted anymore attention, I would be destined To be ended by Breona.
After I took out my books and my pencils, I saw Alex walk in. He came and sat in the seat next to mine.
"What the hell was that?"
"What the hell was what?"
"Why would you say that?"
"Say what?"
"The whole thing about making fun of Breona's richness in a low key manner."
"How did you hear that?"
"The whole world heard that Nina."
"I don't get it."
"Did you think you were talking very quietly? Cause you weren't. Everyone who was walking behind you including myself heard your argument."
"Damn. These people are going to make a big deal out of nothing."
"That sounded pretty intense. You should've really thought of what you were going to argue with. That came out much meaner than what I think you were going for."
"Well, at least now she sees who she is messing with. I have had enough of her haunting me around."
"But that's Breona who we're talking about. She's a disaster waiting to happen."
"It's too late now. I've said what I needed to."
"Damn Nina!"
"Alex I need to be alone right now. The last thing I need is you giving me a commentary of what I just did. It isn't your business anyways so I don't understand why you want to know everything about this fight anyways."
Alex turned red. I'd just messed up pretty badly. I just taunted my own friend.
The bell rang a split second later.
"Please take a seat everyone and pass up your book reports," said my teacher.
Oh damn, I forgot to do that! Being caught up with Marc drama I totally forgot that I had a report for English.
"Did everyone hand in their work? This is a big part of your grade so I hope everyone has everything handed in."
I walked up to the front of the classroom and walked up to my teacher.
"Sorry but I forgot my work. Is it possible if I can have it in tomorrow?"
"Nina, you are an excellent student. I did not expect this from you."
"Is there anything I can do?"
"You lose 20 points. I need your report before tomorrow morning at 7:30. After that, I'm not accepting your paper. If you come after school today, you can get five extra points."
"I'll be there, I promise."
"You won't always get away with this Nina. This is your first and last warning."
"I understand."
Walking back to my seat in shame, I could not believe what I'd just done. English was my easiest topic and I just lost easy points. All this was happening because of over person. Marc. He was getting in my way. I needed to stop myself from obsessing over him and focus on what was right. I could make things right again in school by going to extra help today and getting some points back.
