I sat there looking at my hands twiddling together for I don't know how long. I was still in shock with what Michael said. "Sometimes, the most beautiful people have to be takin out of the most ugliest places." I heard a door close and looked at the car mirror, I saw Michael walking towards my side of the car with his hat in one hand, and his other hand tearing at his hair in frustration. I wasn't sure why.
I was about to open the car door, but Michael beat me to it. He opened the door and held his hand out for me to take.
So I took it.
But once I did, he didn't let go.
He was looking at my hand slightly over his, so I looked up at him. He was focusing on my hand, I could tell he was thinking of something. He finally got to his realizations of what he was doing and immediately let go when I fully stood up.
He looked a little panicked but I just smiled which indeed did calm him down.
"Uh, ok so um, t-this is it."
He spread his arms in front of him expressing the place we were at.
He continued,
"This is the army base. This is where your going to be staying for, well uh.."
But he didn't finish. Not because he knew I didn't want to hear what would come next, but because neither of us knew what would happen after.
I didn't bother to say anything, but I did get a good luck at where we were. I looked around and saw tall electric fences securing the whole perimeter, making it inescapable. And I saw a gate behind me which was now closed, it was tall and wide with security guards at each end.
Michael started walking away, leading the way I suppose. He noticed I didn't follow right away and put his hand at the very bottom of my back guiding me with him.
My thoughts were scrambling with one another. I was getting worried. I'm sleeping in a base, with other people. I hate that. I'm going to be doing courses, what if I can't do them? What if I fail and they kill me? What if I can't take it and kill my self? My thoughts were killing me on the inside, that's all I knew.
I'm not relaxed at all anymore. Michael took notice and squeezed my side for reassurance that it'll all be okay.
"Relax, it's not as bad as you think."
He whispered. The base wasn't a normal one at all. It was big, there were people walking around in 3 different colored like uniforms. The people there didn't look sad, they were conversing with each other, but that could be an act. We walked passed the buildings and I saw courses everywhere. I didn't know what any of them were called, but they looked terribly hard.
"This is pretty much it. We have a lot of space but nobody does much." Michael said.
"What do we even do here?" I asked.
"Well there's schedules sent out for your particular faction. There's 3 places you could be sent to which one of them will be your faction. There is the 'Intrepid', 'Astute' and the 'Treacherous'."
"And I will be sent to one of those?"
"Yes, and that all depends on you. On how you do on your courses, which you will start tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yes tomorrow, I know it's too early but Marshall wants you to start quick for some reason." He replied.
Michael brushed the conversation away and led me down to what seems to be the faction buildings. The three bases were widely spread out from one another. The faction names was splattered on the front of the building. The Intrepid faction was to my left, it was two stories just like the others but the building was a dark green color. To my right was the Astute building with a a dark blue color covering the building. The last building I saw was the Treacherous building. It was black and looked horrifying.
