"I don't remember"

Tom opened them once more, standing in a white walled room - a glass wall facing him as the harsh lights blinded him. The speaker crackled slightly before the voice called out once more as a door on the left wall slid open.

Scientists in white coats walked in, ignoring him as machines hummed in the background.
Tommy sweats, glancing from his trembling hands to the window.*

On the other side, walking though the door, Ran smiles.

"You got this"

"I know, I know, breath" Tom would roll his eyes and Ran walked in, "can we still get pizza after"

Ran forces a smile, looking at Tom's body flinch as one scientist steps forward to adjust the wires coiled around his head - removing them from his hair.
Tom hadn't even realised they'd been there. Soon one of the scientists gestured tom to sit on the small stool behind him: giving him a glass of water to sip from.

Tommy sat on a cold metal stool in the middle of the white room, huffing as he did so.

A women walked into the room, holding a notepad as other people pulled out a table and chairs for her to sit on.
The women sat opposite tom, whilst ran lingeried nearby, like ke an interview setup, but colder.

A woman in a gray suit stepped out of nowhere (or maybe she’d been there all along). She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

"Tommy," she said, voice soft like silk over stone. “Let’s talk about your family.”

Tommy swallowed. His fingers twisted together in his lap. "Why?"

"Your mum," The woman nodded slowly and tapped something into a floating screen that appeared next to her face. “She’s short, isn’t she?"

Tommy blinked. “Yeah… but everyone says I don’t take after her.”

Behind the one-way glass near the door, a small red light blinked once.

Ran looked between them, confused.

Tommy sighed deeply, "I don't remember much about my mum, so there's no point asking me anything about her"

The women nodded, continuing anyway. "We think she has something to do with your powers,"

In response, tom slammed the table, causing small water drops to spill. "What?"

The woman tilted her head now. "Has your father,” she said carefully. “Does he ever… forget things?”

Tommy stiffened. “Like what?”

“How old you are,” she said smoothly. “What school you go to… or maybe even who raised you?”

A chill slid down his spine.

Because yes—Dad had been off lately—not wrong just once or twice—but three birthdays missed... calling him by another name... Forgetting his existence.

And then he remembered what Ran whispered to him years ago, after tom was staying over crying over being forgotten once again.
"What if we don't have powers yet... because we're still waiting for them to wake up?"

"I don't know," Tommy lied softly—and looked straight into Rans eyes. "What does she mean about my powers? What does my mum have anything to do with this?"

The machine in the background sounded—a flatline sound—and somewhere beyond the wall.

He looked at the women.

"We," she stalled, "We believe that your father's powers and hers has, coexisted inside of your: preventing your development,"

He paused, confusion and focus on his face.

"But, my mum didn't have powers,-" tom would grimace, "plus, not all powers are hereditary,"

She would nod at him, "however, the development process is, and under different situations, powers can change when strained,"

Tom would nod, "like how my brother's powers aren't the same even though their twins,"

She would nod once more, making notes about what he says.
"We will continue this another day, but we believe whatever is in that box in your memory, holds what we need to know,"

Ran would cut in, standing at the head of the table.

"Think about it, why do your brothers have mind based powers, when your father's physical ability?"

Tom would nod slow. He'd never even dare question how a man with feather wings and eagle like powers could produce two children with mind control or manipulation based powers...

He didn't like the thought.

Sorry for the long wait, as well as the short updates on my media - I've been out of commission for a while lol

I have honestly lost the main plot of this book, so don't worry if it doesn't make too much sense
