"You lied?"

Tom would sit on the edge of his bed - wrapping up bruises and cuts on his hands with gentle white cotton. He'd twist the fabric over his palm, then his fingers and all around once more.

Once satisfied with the ending, and tugging the end away, he'd flex his fingers and stretch out - unhooking all the knots in his back and clips in his neck.

"God," he'd scoff, standing up and looking at the pile of clothes he'd discarded on the floor. "This place is a shit hole"

He'd toss all the clothes and random fabrics of sorts into the pile, lifting it up after pulling out a small figurine of a hero and tossing it to the corner of the room - giving it a whole view of the place Tom stayed.

"IM BORED!" he'd yell out, flipping back into his bed and scoffing, frailing his arms around. "IM BOOOOORRREEEED"

"Be quiet tom!" Ran would yell out from behind the door, "It's almost sorted now!"

Tom would scoff and sit back up. He had been confined into his room once again, for the third time this month, all because they wanted to 'experiment' on him.
It wasn't as bad as they made it sound, but Tommy would never accept that - he just found the whole thing boring.

He just had to sit in his room, wait a moment for the world around him to change, and then find whatever they wanted him to find and it's over and done with.
Sometimes the world outside of this room would become a forest, or a maze that he'd have to navigate to find a key or something, other times it would be somewhere he'd been before - those times were the worst.

"Annnnd!- Done!" Rans voice would echo behind the door, fading away from existence when Tommy stood up.

He'd roll his eyes, "thank god!" And marched towards the door, pulling it open to reveal nothing but darkness. "What the fuck?"
He'd kick the door, poking his head into the void before whining again into the air. "There's nothing fucking here!"

He gained no response from the other observing him, not completely unusual for the time being - they'd normally pipe up when he got lost or stuck on something.
"Oh fuck this" He'd bawl his fits and step out into the void - finding a firm ground to stand on unlike the hollowness he expected.
He moved forwards, hands outstretched in fear of it being another invisible maze; the amount of times he banged into one of those walls will still haunt him to this day.
He reached a wall, no, multiple walls separated by doors.

"Is this just the hallway?"

He moved along the darkness, hand lightly pressed on the solid darkness in order to not get lost.

"Am I menna be in here?" He'd call out to no one again, walking down the pathway of darkness, humming tunes as he moved.

"Yay for me" he'd scoff, rolling his eyes and he moved further into the darkness.

He'd moved down the hallway, hearing strange noises behind the doors. He'd put a hand on the wooden frame, a yellow light shining through the door. He'd scoff, leaning and listening in.
"Do you blame him?"

"No- I... Maybe?" A familiar voice sounded. "I know it's not his fault, but he looks and acts so similar"

"I get it" A man would reply, "if you had the choice, would you?"

A long pause happened before the man responded. Tommy's heart in his chest.

"I would" Silence.
"I would whatever it takes to get mum back"

Tommy would open the door to the room suddenly, seeing his family all around the kitchen table.
"The risks would be too much, he could risk loosing his-"

Their faces twisted to Tommy before muddling into ash. Their bodies turned to smoke that fluttered through the doors behind him.

"No!" He'd scream, chasing the smoke.

"What was that, what the fuck was that!" He'd yell out, slamming his hands into the oak table. He'd look up, the room slowly changing around him once more.

It was his house, his older brother's room. The random coffee cups everywhere, even the mismatched bedsheets and clothes where the same. A dark purple roof with random glow in the dark stickers littered all over.

"What?" He'd mutter.

He'd turn around slowly, looking at where the door he came from was - only it was gone. A plain wall replacing it.
Something he needed to find was in here.

"Any clues?" He'd call out, circling the floor as he'd look at the artificial stars.  "Course not..."

He'd sit on the bed, looking at the stripped red patterns and the yellow beanie that was placed on the bed post. He'd consider picking it up, but decided not to ask he looked at the bedside table.

He'd hum to himself as he opened the draw, notebooks shoved inside. He'd pick some up, flicking through the pages of his brothers make-believe stories.

"Boring," he'd place the notebooks on the bed, skimming the titles and blurbs. He'd hold one, 'Delyiah,' was the title "Sounds horrible".
He'd pick up another the title crossed out and rewrote multiple times in different ways, 'Tommy's guide for missing death' was the newest.

"Man he's a neek...." He'd scoff and shove the books down before ruffling through the draws more and finding a small key. "Oh?"

He'd look around the room, looking for anything the key could go to.

He'd open the closet, pull away the duvet of the bed, kick over the piles of clothes - even look at the empty coffee cups.

Nothing.

"Great, fucking useless" he'd scoff once more, sitting annoyed on the bed until he looked at the carpet.
Confusion on his face as he noticed something that was never normally there. A small tag pressed against the wall.

He'd stalk over to the tag, pulling it up carefully.
It easily moved under his touch, revealing a small compartment with a box inside.
He'd grab the box, lifting it to his face.

It wasn't covered in dust, or dirty; beautifully clean like something to be sat shone off. A dark oak box with golden cuffs and edges. Oh was beautiful, and familiar. Oh so strangely familiar to him.

He'd put the golden key on the box, aligning it before twisting it open. He'd lift the lid and find nothing inside.

"All right Tom, that's enough" a voice would call out from somewhere external. "We got everything we needed"

Tom would stand up, closing his eyes as the world around him shifted.

Sorry for the long wait, as well as the short updates on my media - I've been out of commission for a while lol

I have honestly lost the main plot of this book, so don't worry if it doesn't make too much sense
