Yani and Kasen have been the best of friends for 5+ years. It feels like he's known her all of his life, almost as if they grew up together. She knows everything about him. He's talking about really deep and intense traumatic experiences, and he genuinely thought the same about her.
But as he slammed his drawer shut, tossing a low, heavy glass across the wooden top, he realized she never really talked about her past, or her family, at all.
Tequila splashed in the glass. His eyes drooped lower as his head spun in circles. He could feel Lankey staring a burning hole at the side of his face, but he doesn't care right now. He goes on banging the bottle on the surface.
He leans back in his chair, grabbing the glass, then replaying an old news report that aired back in 2010 onto his laptop. This was probably his 37th time playing it.
"It's been five months since the Carran family was found dead inside their home. But one remains unaccounted for, Yaria Carran is still missing. If you have any information regarding her whereabouts, please contact local authorities. A $50,000 reward is now being offered."
When the video continues on to the part of the reporters having a conversation about whether she could have also been a victim or a suspect, it sets a burning rage through his bloodstream.
He crushes the lid down, lets out a grunt, slides his chair back, and gets up. Soon after killing the shot down his throat, he channels the burning in his chest, viciously wounding his arm back like a pitcher, letting the glass fly full force across the office, straight across Lankey's temple.
How could they say that? A 10-year-old girl be a suspect? That's so sick to think. How about you do your fucking job and find out where she is, then accuse her after doing real investigating.
Nothing makes sense to him. There's so many questions running through his head right now.
You know, there's no more news reports after that specific one. Like literally, it's almost like the world forgot all about this tragedy. Everything disappeared.
Which explains why he's been replaying it the entire time since they got back to the station from checking out the house again.
The shed was finally opened and it looked like everything was cleared out. The only thing he found was a newspaper with the title: CARRAN FAMILY MASSACRED JULY 4TH, 2010 WITH ONE MISSING.
Lankey used his arms to protect his head.
"Dude!" he screams at Kasen as if he's freaking insane.
The detective ignores him again. He walks over toward the investigation map he had on his wall showing a breakdown of how this fire was staged.
