The main character can't be the only person in the book, unless all the other humans have been turned into zombies or something. Sometimes side characters are even more liked than the protagonist. Here are some ideas you can use to flesh our your cast.

1. Granny who's seen and done everything from spelunking to torture.

2. Random wacko who's always right, maybe for the wrong reasons but the result is still the same. Whether people believe him or not is up to you.

3. Grumpy neighbor who acts like he hates everyone but secretly means well. Like he will glare at the main character for using his lawn as a short cut but if said character shows up with a broken arm the grumpy guy will take him in to bandage it up and ask who did it.

4. Hyperactive ball of sunshine who's secretly got the saddest backstory to give the main characters an existential crisis although that part doesn't show up until later.

5. Girl who's not part of the main group but is always unfazed by the alien invasion or the zombie apocalypse or whatever the villain of the week your protagonists face on a regular basis and just rolls with it. Possibly Australian.

6. Lady who's always just sitting there reading in the background and shushes anyone who makes enough noise to disturb her, even if said disturbers are the villains. Doesn't seem to notice the current war or whatever that's ongoing.

7. Elderly couple who adopted one of the villains or maybe an eldritch horror that is now extremely confused from all the love and attention they are receiving but doesn't want it to stop because it feels so good.

8. Random animal, plant, or object that turns out to be sentient this whole time.

9. Those villain lackeys who are really sweet and always help out more than they hurt.

10. Gothic kid who's actually pretty sweet and bubbly and not emo.
