Chapter 6

Kim's POV

Finally back on shift! I say in my head as I ride my bike up the driveway. I dismount my bike and set it against the wall just inside the apparatus floor. I skip into the house and go and get changed. I walk back into the common room and  plop down on the couch. Everyone walks in.

"Welcome back Candidate." Casey says. Everyone claps me on the back or rubs my head and then goes to do their own thing. Mouch sits down next to me and turns on the TV.

"Aren't you gonna make breakfast, Candidate?" Mouch asks. I look at him.

" I've already eaten." I say and than look at my phone as it dings.

(L= Lucas, K=Kim)

L: Hey I'm outside.

K: Ok, be out soon.

I get up and walk out to the apparatus floor. I see squad, nod at me as I walk past. I walk outside and see Lucas.

"Hi." I say walking up to him.

"Hey." Lucas says,"I thought I'd come and visit you." 

"You know you can come inside, right?" I say.

"You sure?" Lucas asks. I look at him, nod, and than start walking.

"C'mon, firefighters don't bite." I say when reach the squad table and see Lucas lurking in the doorway, he runs to catch up.

"Your nephew is so cute, I could just eat him up." We here Brett say somewhere in the background.

"Paramedics on the other hand..." I mutter as Squad laughs. Lucas and I walk into the common room and sit down next to each other at the table.

*Casey's POV*

I am sitting on one of the chairs in the middle of table reading the newspaper when Halstead walks in with a boy trailing behind her. They sit down next to each other at the table, really close, and start talking. Squad walks in. Every one is just staring at Halstead and that boy as they laugh at what one of them said. Severide walks over, grabs a chair and sits between them. Halstead looks at Severide who is glaring at mystery boy as he moves over, clearly intimidated by severide.

"Really guys?" Halstead says looking around.

"Aren't you going to introduce us." Otis says.

"Guys, this is Lucas. Lucas this is the guys." Halstead sighs, all of a us men glare at Lucas.

"I for one don't object!" Brett says. There are murmurs of agreement from the other girls.

"Guys. Why are you glaring at him? Your making us uncomfortable." Halstead says, Lucas nods. Severide gets up and grabs Lucas's chair dragging him past me and stopping at one end of the table. Then he walks back to Halstead and grabs her chair and moves it to the other end, Than he sits down opposite me.

"You may continue." Severide says. Halstead grabs 2 of the note pads and pencils they had before and slides one of each down the table to Lucas. Halstead writes something on it folds it up into a paper plane and than throws it to Lucas. Lucas unfolds it and than laughs and smiles at Halstead.
