Chicago Fire Department's Newbie

Being the author of this book I would like to just say a couple of things so this will be my second book published but is my first one is not completely finished yet I haven't updated for quite a while because I haven't got many reads so in this book it is all about Chicago Fire. Chicago Fire is not my program I do not own any of the characters in it except for Kimberley Halstead and any other characters I make up along the way, to avoid confusion about what characters are mine I will post their name at the beginning or ending of each chapter.

So here we go on the first chapter

Kim'sPOV

I get off the bus with my bag, the rain pelting my head. I pulled my jacket tighter over my head running down the street towards my new job, in the Chicago fire department. Jogging through the doors everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at me. I walked past the trucks and into a hallway connected to a common room.

"You ok kid?" Asked a girl with candidate on her shirt.

"I'm actually looking for chief Boden." I say looking at this girl.

"That would be me." A voice said behind me.

Spinning on my heel I put my hand up to my head to salute him and I say very loudly, "Kimberley Halstead reporting for duty sir." The Chief looked at me and than looked at everyone around us, even the people in the hallway had looked at me.

"This isn't the defence force kid you don't need to salute your superiors." The chief said leading me and two men down the hallway and into an office.

The Chief looked over to the men who followed us down,"This is the new candidate Kimberley Halstead. Kimberley this is Lieutenant Severide and Lieutenant Casey. Go and get into your gear." I exited the office and heard some rather loud talking, I walked briskly down the hall and into the locker room. I unzipped my bag and put on my uniform which consists of a shirt that says candidate, a pair of pants and some boots. I zipped my bag back up and shoved it into my locker. I walked down the hallway again and to the common room. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at me, suddenly I felt a tap on my leg and I looked down to see a dog with white fur and a few patches of colour and one of brown near its eye. It is wearing a red collar and it's head was looking up at me. "Who this little guy?" I asked.

"That's pouch half pooch half couch?" A guy with greyish hair said as I heard footsteps stop behind me I quickly spun around to be faced with lieutenant Casey and Severide.

"Guys listen up, this is our new candidate Kimberley Halstead. " Casey said, everyone just looked at me

"How old are you kid , like 10?" A bald guy says.

"No I'm 14 , got a problem with that. " I say looking at him directly in the eyes. He opened his mouth to say something back but Severide interrupted him"Capp don't."suddenly a figure walked through the door a person i knew all to well.

"Clarkie!" I yell engulfing Jeff Clarke into a hug.

"Kimmy!"he yelled back.

"Wait how do you guys know each-other?" The guy with greyish hair asked us.

"Well Herrmann, we served together. Kim's like a sister to me. " Jeff said, everyone looked at us puzzled.

Suddenly the alarm went off. Engine 51, truck 81, squad 3 and ambo 61 apartment fire 108 1st avenue.

We all jumped up and ran out to the trucks i slid on my gear and jumped into the truck waiting for the others.They all jumped into the truck. Casey turned to me " Halstead this is Mouch, Herrmann, Otis, Dawson and Cruz."Casey said pointing at everyone. When we pulled up at the fire all of us were out of the truck before it stopped moving. Not just one appartment was on fire but the whole building "Cruz, Mouch, Herrmann take the roof Dawson, otis first and second floor, Halstead with me," lieutenant Casey and I ran into the building with our masks on and ran up the stairs." Ok we got floor 5, squad have 3 and 4, Herrmann and otis got 1 and 2." As soon as we got up to floor 5 we yelled out "fire department call out" but all we heard was the roar of the fire. We started to clear the rooms when i heard crying from the end of the hall. Casey and I looked at each other and ran down the hallway into the apartment where we heard the crying coming from. We ran through the kitchen and into a room with a crib. I ran over to the crib as Casey ran to a little boy who couldn't have been any older than 4. I picked up the baby that was in the crib and looked at Casey. "Ok lets get out of here, stick to my hip." He said as i opened my jacket and put the baby inside. We ran out the door him infrount of me with the boy in his arms. As i ran into the kitchen of the apartment I noticed marks on the wall where most of the stuff was burned to a crisp. " We're all out. Casey, Halstead where are you. " the chief said over the radio. Casey looked at me as he responded "where coming down the staircase now." We reached the stairs and ran down them. As we got to the first floor we could hear the building creak. We got to the hallway that lead to the exit and started sprinting then I saw a pile of stuff fall from the sealing "Casey!" I yell as i push him out of the way then I hit the floor as something came down on top of me. Casey looked at me. "Mayday, Mayday Fire fighter down. Haltead is trapped under a lot of stuff."just as he said this more junk fell around me I couldn't see Casey any more. I moved so that there was no weight on the baby in my jacket.
