A lot had happened in the past month. Jaime came back, I met this Vicky, and we were very close. I also got close to Kellin's wife, Katelynn, and Hayley Williams. Today, Vicky would be with me to pick up my cousin, Leah. My uncle had cleaned up his act almost 2 years after my parents death, and he had a daughter of his own.
I was glad to have Leah with me, seeing we both spoke Scottish Gaelic. Vicky understood my thick accent, which was a miracle sometimes.
"So," Vicky starts. "How Scottish are you planning to make your wedding?" I laugh.
"You make it sound like I'm going to force Tony to wear a kilt and name our first daughter Maebh(Pronounced: Maeve)!"
"Are you?"
"Well Maebh is a pretty name..." I trail off. Vicky laughs in response.
"No, I meant make him wear a kilt."
"Maybe for photos." I joke.
We stop in the parking lot, and walk to the arrival gate. It takes about 20 minutes to see a beautiful woman with jet black hair, green eyes, and strong Scottish features. Time to bust out the Gaelic.
"Oi! Leah! Faigh do asal thar anseo!(Get your ass over here!)" I meets my gaze, smiles, and strolls right up with her luggage. Leah was never one to be girly girl, but liked finesse, resulting in 1 suitcase, but filled to the brim with clothes for many occasions.
"Fuair tú mo gúna bainise i ann?(You got my wedding dress in there?)" I joke. She laughs along.
"Níl, ach tá mé go leor éadaí chun tú a fháil ar iasacht, má tá tú le do thoil!(No, but I have enough clothes for you to borrow, if you please!)" Leah plays along.
"You know, I enjoy that you two are bonding, but English, please." Vicky steps in. I laugh in response.
"Alright, Leah. Let's get you to the house. Tony and I have a guest room."
When we get back to the house, I see Tony's car in the driveway. Vicky has left with her prized truck, so Leah and I went back to Gaelic.
"Tá tú ag dul chun grá Tony! Tá sé milis agus cineál, agus an duine is fearr a d'fhéadfaí tú a iarraidh le haghaidh.(You are going to love Tony! He's sweet and kind, and the best person you could ask for.)"
"Fuaimeanna cosúil le duine éigin atá i ngrá!(Sounds like someone's in love!)" She jokes. I laugh, and Tony walks down the stairs.
I switch back to English. "Tony, this is Leah. She's my cousin, and my best friend. I met her at my grandfather's funeral, but she lived back here in the states."
"Hi! Kai has told me so much about you. All good things, but make sure you shave your legs before the wedding." She says it playfully, but I slap her arm.
"Leah!" I warn.
"What does she mean?" Tony asks.
"It's proper tradition for the groom to wear a kilt at the wedding." Leah says.
"Yeah, if he's full Scott. Tony isn't even Scott, so..." I trail off.
"Anyways, I'm here to help plan! Mama T sent me over. Well, she told my father and he booked a ticket. But pushing that aside, I'm here nonetheless, and Tony, you will be hearing a ton of Gaelic."
Leah makes her way to Luna and plays with her.
"I'll take her shit upstairs." I say to Tony, reaching for her luggage.
*~*
Tony, Leah and I were in the living room, with a laptop, pen, and Gaelic phrases here and there.
"Mama would love it if you did the Wedding Walk." She says.
"But no one in our family plays pipes or violin." I counter.
"At least do the Grand March for the first dance."
"Maybe..." I trail. Tony buts in.
"What's going on?" Oh, yeah. Leah and I were saying this in Gaelic.
"Bottom line here is," Leah starts. "There are a ton of traditions, many that both of our parents have done. I mean, we won't be able to do a Wedding Walk here, it would be too hot, but events like the Grand March are almost a must. But there are simple things, too. For instance, the Best Man would give you a nice clock to keep in the living room, and I would give you a nice tea set to keep in the dining room, seeing I'm the Maid of Honour. You," She turns towards Tony. "Would give her a luckenbooth, and maybe wear a kilt. It depends on your heritage, and also your dignity." She jokes.
"What's a luckenbooth?" He asks.
"It's a brooch." I answer.
"Mama Tyre would want you to have the Scottish Quaich. If you have a low budget, than do a Penny Wedding." Leah suggests.
After some talk and negotiation, the outcome was this:
Penny Wedding:
-Scottish Quaich
-Best Man(Jaime) and Maid of Honour(Leah) gifts
-Grand March
and that was pretty much all we could agree on for the traditional Scottish part. We decided to wrap it up for the day, and just in time because the doorbell rang. Tony answers it and it's the Fuentes brothers. Vic and Mike walk in, greeting Luna, and plopping down in the living room.
"Who are you?" Mike asks Leah.
"I'm Leah. Kai's cousin. I was sent over to help plan the wedding." She answers simply. Mike looks up at me.
"How many hot cousins do you have?" He asks. I burst out laughing.
"Leah is the only one I have contact with. The others are on my biological Mum's side, but they all live in Scotland. Plus, Leah hasn't lived her whole life in Scotland. Her accent sounds cute, but oh my gosh, Leah, have you met Aunt Maebh? I just had to talk Gaelic the whole time. Her English was that inaudible!" Leah laughs in response, and Mike shuts his mouth for a moment.
Vic pipes up. "So, what have you guys decided on?"
"Some of you are going to need dance lessons." Leah says simply.
"Hey! We can dance!" Vic counters.
"Fine, do you know the Grand March?" Leah asks. The brothers stay silent, and I laugh. "Exactly."
"But it's fairly simple. I'll be in the front with Tony, both sets of in-laws, and then the Best Man and Maid of Honor, and then the closest family friends and their significant others. I can pull up a video." I say, and after 5 minutes on the laptop, I find a good one.(SEE VIDEO)
"See, it's just a simple march." I say.
Leah laughs as the guys actually look serious watching the march. I chuckle myself.
This would be a very closely knit wedding.
