People come bursting into the room, at least two of them.
"SHE HASN'T GOT MUCH TIME!" Liam screams, Jade in his arms, limp and lifeless.
My instincts hit and adrenaline fills my bloodline as I run over to where Liam sets the girl on the ground, still only having half an arm; due to my decisions from the day before.
"What happened?" Niall yells to Liam, the rest of the group surrounding Jade and wondering the same question.
"I had to cut her arm off back when we were leaving the house; she'd gotten bit. I'd stopped the bleeding and the infection from spreading throughout the rest of her body." I tell them, removing Liam's plaid shirt from the nub she now has below her elbow.
"She was fine, we went back to look for you guys and had seen the cars out front. Just before Jade entered the building she had fainted, I had to get up here as fast as I could." Liam answers the group before leaning down on one knee to take a look at Jade.
"What do you think happened?" Jackson asks, raising a hand in the air from where he stands behind me.
"Probably lost too much blood." Steven answers long before I could have.
The amount of blood that stains Liam's shirt is undeniably too much, and the wound still gushes out rivers of Crimson down onto the floor now.
"Emily or Carly, I had collected some bandages from downstairs if you could look in my bag and grab them." I point over my shoulder to where my backpack sits against the wall; asking a girl so no guy would have to go digging for a tampon instead.
Louis and Harry lean back on the sofa, both quiet and most likely still in shock; losing a sibling just minutes ago.
Carly retrieves the bandages and kneels down next to my side, handing the wad of cushiony fabric to me.
Her breathing quickly bumps along, obviously scared to lose yet another member of our group; and I wouldn't be innocent of that either.
I slowly wrap up the wound on Jade's thin arm, and the whole room is silent, watching my actions to save yet another life, something we must do often these days.
"We have a camp." Liam tells everyone, crossing his arms over his chest and looking between everyone's faces in the group. "Perrie and Zayn are there now, it's a few miles down the road."
"I think we know where to go then." Emily adds, already packing up her things and getting ready to leave.
"Now?" I ask, just a bit annoyed at Emily's urgency to leave.
"Why not?" She asks, more blind to my point by the second.
"Do you not see where we are right now?" I explain, standing up from where I'd been leaning over Jade. "Jade is totally out and we just lost two members of the group leaving their brothers devastated."
"She's right." Harry speaks from behind everyone, his long hair pulled back by a headband and his face clearly red and puffy from crying. "We at least need to have a burial, it would be wrong to leave them like this."
You could tell it hurt Harry to talk about it, Louis giving him a small pat on the back; clearly also sad about losing both his sisters just in the past 48 hours.
"Well." Liam speaks up before everyone. "Let's get to it."
Managing to somehow find a shovel, all of us head out, the brothers being the ones to carry their sisters out to the back of the clinic; just on the outside of the woods.
We only have about eight hours of daylight left, leaving the day before us open for anything to happen.
"If everyone would like to come say a word?" Jackson speaks up, after speeching on about the people we'd lost.
Steven stepped up without hesitation; almost having to fight for the first word between he and Carly.
Gemma and Felicite lay in their graves, two small holes dug just behind the building; shielding their faces under bedsheets we'd taken from the infirmary.
"They were too young. This world isn't gonna stop killing, not now, not later, never. It's just the way it is now." Steven speaks softly, emphasizing the weight of the situation. "We won't forget them."
He quietly picks up the shovel and just pushes a big amount of dirt onto both Gemma's and Felicite's graves.
"I'm gonna try to get through this without crying, " Carly softly smiles, her eyes already glistening from the tears that threaten to fall from them. "I remember Felicite telling me, how much she'd wanted this. Wanted to get it over with, and not see any more people she loves fall, I think she's in a better place now." Small streams of tears escape her shut eyelids and she purses her lips into a line and shovels the dirt in.
Liam watches from the second story window, having to keep an eye on Jade and make sure someone is there when she wakes up.
Louis steps up next, not taking his eyes off of his cold and limp little sister.
"It hurts." Louis tries to smile, obviously not doing a very good job at it. "If anything, my mind is telling me to be glad it's over. It made it a lot better that both my sisters are up there together now, and Lottie can still protect Felicite up there, although she couldn't do it down here, she's still watching over us; they both are." Louis shuts his eyes and let's tears fall, shoveling the last of the dirt into both the girl's graves, reaching out for Harry's hand.
Harry takes it and joins him by his side.
"I believe all three of them are together now, they can watch over each other and care for each other; something I couldn't do that well." Harry speaks, staring Niall and I right in the eyes. "She didn't turn, we didn't let her."
"I'll close it off now." I say, stepping forward and hugging both of the boys tightly, tears also brimming my sockets.
"They didn't suffer." I purse my lips and shake my head, smiling. "Steven's right, we won't forget them. Although the feeling will haunt us forever, this is oblivion's world now, all we have to do is keep fighting, that's all there is to it anymore."
A walker lurks back in the woods behind us, only a few feet back, rattling the bushes and gurgling hungrily.
Jackson whispers a calming words before approaching the biter with his machete, stabbing it right between the eyes where it counts; and somewhere up on the second floor, Jade wakes up.
A/N:
This was also a rather short chapter, but again, it was one of the most special I've ever written. The chapters will slowly be getting longer as the story moves forward, thank you xx
