Rubbing her eyes gently, Ellia opened them to see the warm sunlight shining through the closed curtains. Slowly sitting up, she looked around her to see three more beds that were occupied by first years.
"Great," she muttered, climbing out of bed and sighing. She was sharing a dormitory with girls that were years younger than her. Quickly getting changed before they woke up, and tying her hair in a messy bun, she left the dormitory with a bag full of the books she needed that day and her wand tucked in her boots. In the common room, there were only a few people awake, most of them preparing to go to the feast. For once, Ellia was alone during the morning until Lavender came a down, gleaming.
"I don't think I've spoken to you yet," She said, sitting beside Ellia on the couch, "I'm Lavenders, Lavender Brown." And it seemed as if to Ellia, Lavender Brown wouldn't leave her alone for the rest of the morning until Ginny finally awoke. Lavender meant well, much like the rest of Gryffindor, but it wasn't the same. They were her friends, but not her friends. She left for the Great Hall by herself, eager to just be by herself, however she found herself taking a detour down to the Dungeons. A couple of Slytherins strode past her, their heads held high, but nothing caused a disruption. Her father's old quarters were at the end of one of the corridors, and it seemed to Ellia already that they were vacant. She pushed on the door lightly, checking that they weren't locked. To her surprise, the door opened a small bit, before Ellia poked her head through it.
"Hello?" She called, double checking nobody else was in the quarters. Due to no response, she stepped into the quarters, before closing the door slowly behind her. The room that was once occupied with her father's furniture was now empty, and covered in dust. "Lumos," She said, searching around the living and kitchen area. It was all empty, everything. She had even checked her old room to find that the furniture from that room was no longer there. Exiting the quarters, Ellia quickly made her way up to the Great Hall, pushing past a few Slytherin's on her way.
"She's coming to get you," One chanted.
"Beware because Patricia's going to get you," Another Slytherins chanted, before laughing with his friend. Ellia sighed before finally entering the Great Hall, noticing how Ginny, Lavender and Neville still weren't there.
"Thank god," she muttered under her breath. She was relieved that she wouldn't have to socialise with anybody, and soon started eating a small bowl of porridge. She had no clue as to why the quarters still weren't occupied. There were two new members of staff this year, surely they would need their own quarters.
Ellia almost jumped out of her skin as she felt somebody tap her shoulder, before turning slightly around to see McGonagall's tired face.
"Are you settled enough in your dormitory? I know it must be strange not having any of your other friends here, but things just change," McGonagall said, her hand still on Ellia's shoulder.
"Yes Professor. A lot has changed," Ellia sighed, pushing her bowl away as she stood up properly to speak to the old women.
"Something's happen for the best, something's happen for the worst. I'm still hoping that Professor Dumbledore's death was for the best, although each day it turns into the worst," McGonagall too sighed, before pulling out a piece of parchment.
"What's that?" Ellia asked her, pointing at it. McGonagall handed it to her.
"Your new timetable. I wasn't sure what you wanted to take so I just picked them for you, I hope you didn't mind," McGonagall said, whilst Ellia read the timetable.
Potions : Professor Slughorn
Transfiguration : Professor McGonagall
History of Magic : Professor Binns
Charms : Professor Flitwick
Care of Magical Creatures : Rubeus Hagrid"Professor, what about Defence Against the Dark Arts and Muggle Studies?" Ellia asked her, confused as to why it was taken off of her timetable.
"I believe it's now known as the Dark Arts now, and Muggle Studies had changed as well. Also, I refrained you from having the Carrow twins teach you, and I knew you would like the teachers teaching the chosen subjects," McGonagall explained to her, glancing over at Alecto Carrow as she demolished her meal on the staffing table.
"I understand Professor, thank you for your concern. At least I don't have to worry about seeing them everyday," Ellia sighed with relief. Faintly smiling, McGonagall pulled back a strand of her that had became loose from her bun, before putting her glasses on.
"Now I'm going to go and set up for my lesson, which I believe you have first as well. But I warn you, you may not be taught by them but you can't avoid them," McGonagall said, before walking off. Just as she left, Ginny met her side.
"What was that all about?" Ginny asked, looking back at McGonagall.
"My timetable, that's all," Ellia answered, watching the Professor leave the Great Hall.
"Hmm sounds about right. I came in here actually to ask you if you've seen Luna since we arrived?" Ginny asked Ellia, looking around the Great Hall for the Quibbler's editors eccentric daughter.
"Actually, no. No I haven't seen her since we were on the train," Ellia informed Ginny, realising Luna was missing. Ginny simply sighed.
"Never mind. I'm sure I'll find her at some point," Ginny said, sitting down at the Gryffindor table.
The day flew past more quickly than Ellia had expected, and she was able to avoid walking into the Carrow Twins or worse... Her father. However it didn't seem to hit her just how much the Carrow Twins were a hazard until she reached the Common Room after studying in the library, only to find that Neville had a small slash across his forehead.
"Neville, god what happened?" Ellia asked him, studying the cut on his forehead.
"My first lesson with Alecto for Dark Arts, only I refused to participate in the lesson unless it was Defence Against the Dark Arts," Neville informed Ellia, before smiling," It's nothing though. I'm sure they'll be worse to come this year."
"Neville, it's awful," Ellia told him, turning to Ginny ,"Are there more like this?"
"Yeah, just from the first day," Ginny revealed to her.
"Well then we need to take them to the Hospital Wing so Madame Pompfrey can make sure it doesn't get infected," Ellia said, turning back to Neville.
"We can't. They're not accepting students in there anymore, Carrow's order. They only will unless it's an emergency," Neville explained to Ellia.
"That's just ridiculous. This whole school is now ridiculous," Ellia sighed, walking away from Neville and Ginny into a swarm of First Years. She noticed that they didn't really talk a lot, they all seemed frightened by the drastic change in Hogwarts. In fact, Ellia felt frightened by the drastic change in Hogwarts. And it had only been one full day.
