Chapter 10: That had to be one of the greatest things I've ever heard

Maya's POV

"I had a really great time Josh." I said as we walked to my apartment. He smiled. "I did too." We stood at my doorway as we both stopped. "Maybe another date sometime?" I blushed. "Sometime." At that moment I looked into his big brown eyes and basically swooned at him.

He started to lean down and close his eyes. Wait, is he doing what I think he's doing? Is he gonna kiss me? I didn't want to just stand there like an idiot, so I leaned in, keeping my eyes wide open. I've dreamed of this moment since forever. I closed my eyes as I thought how nothing could stop me now.....

"BBBBBBZZZZZZZ" My phone buzzed. I opened my eyes to find a disappointed Josh. While blushing, I picked up my phone and answered my phone. "Yeah?" I yelled kinda upset. "Maya!" Yelled Smackle on the other line. "It's a mess, you need to come here now."

I made a confusing look. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Apparently, Riley was going to the dance with another guy, but Lucas got him busy so he'd be with Riley." I sighed.

The last thing I needed was for there to be a riot at the dance. Not only did I not get kissed, but I might've missed out on the biggest fight of the semester. "And?" I said. "Well......they kissed." She said. My jaw dropped. "Riley had her first kiss?" I squealed. Josh turned to me. "Way to go cowboy!" He yelled. "But that's not all that happened." She said, sighing.

" What do you mean?" I asked nervously. "Charlie saw, and the lets just say, he wasn't happy about it." I looked at Josh who already took my hand to go to the school.

I've never seen a bigger mess then what I just saw right now. Spilled punch, broken tables, and balloons all over the floor. There was no music playing, but there was a lot of buzz in the air. I couldn't find Charlie or Lucas anywhere. Where are they?

At that moment, Josh tapped my shoulder and pointed at Riley, who was sitting down on the floor at the edge of the gym. "I'll be right back." I told him as I headed to her.

"Hey." I said as I sat next to her. She looked at me and started to smile. "What are you doing here?" She questioned. I shrugged. "Why do you think?" "Who even told you?" She asked. "Smackle did, speaking of, where is she? And everyone?"

She sighed. "Smackle and Farkle left because it was Smackle's curfew and Lucas...." She paused. "went to the principals office with Charlie."

"And what did you do?" I asked. She looked down. "Nothing." She whispered. My eyes widened. "Are you telling me both Lucas and Charlie got in trouble and you did nothing?" I yelled. She nodded. I put my head against the wall. "So, how was your date with Josh?" She said, trying to change the subject.

"No Riley, we're not talking about anything until we talk about this. How could not do anything? The Riley I know would've at least stand up to them, not keep her mouth shut. Why did you do nothing Riley?" I admitted.

She stood up. "Because saying something meant choosing one of them. I had to stand up to one or the other, I can't stand up to both. That's why I didn't do anything." I got up.

"Choose." She stared at me blankly. "What?" She said. "Choose, who's the better guy?" I asked. She dropped her jaw as she made a confusing look. "You want me to choose? I can't!" She said.

"Riley, right now they're both in trouble. You can save one of them. You can be with one of them. You can be happy with one of them, who Riley? Who's the better guy?"

Lucas's POV

"Let me get this straight," Said principal Yancy. Who was talking to me, Cory, and Charlie.

After Charlie saw me kiss Riley, he shoved me aside and started beating me up. Of course I wasn't gonna take it like a doll so I beat him back, it wasn't like that other fight we had before the dance. It was a full on fight like the ones I had in Texas. I glared at Charlie, who's eyes was throbbing more than before.

"You have a fight earlier today in school, and now at the semi-formal?" He asked furiously. We both nodded. He crossed his arms. "Well, Charlie, you'll have to be suspended for 2 weeks, but as for you Lucas....." He paused as the door flew open.

"Riley?" Asked Cory, who seemed nervous. I turned around to a pretty brunette, who was actually smiling at me. "Hi, principal Yancy. I'm Riley Matthews, and I know what actually happened between these 2." She said as sat between me and Charlie. "Ok, Riley." He said, leaning towards her. "Who's innocent?"

She turned to Charlie. He winked at her as she smiled. I rolled my eyes. She then turned to me. Oh god. What do I do? Smile? Frown? Stick my tongue out?

She then looked at Yancy. "I'll tell you, if you won't suspend either." She said crossing her arms. "No way!" He said. She turned to her dad. "I can call Mr. Turner in a second, Yancy." He said. Yancy scoffed. "Fine, nobody gets suspended. "Good." Riley said as she smiled.

"Now tell me, who's innocent?" He glared at her. Please Riley, please with all my heart I beg you. I'm so sorry. I didn't want us to end like this, I didn't want us to give up on each other, I didn't want to-

"Lucas, he's innocent." She said as she looked at me. Oh my god. I'm innocent??! I smiled at her as she smiled back, happily. "What?" Yelled Charlie. "She's lying! She's only protecting him cause they're friends!"

She turned to him. "Oh yeah? Like I did earlier today with you? I know Lucas Wouldn't hurt anyone unless he actually needed to. I just stood up for you because I was mad at him at the time."

She looked down and sighed. "But I'm not anymore, and I now have learned that you can't move on so easily. I'm sorry Lucas. I should've known you were right all along." I couldn't believe my own eyes. Riley was actually on my side.

"It's true." I said as I smiled. "Cory?" He asked. "2 votes win." He said, pointing to me. My smile turned into a grin as I saw how Riley's face lit up. "This isn't true! You gotta believe me!" Yelled Charlie. I turned to him. "Face it Charlie; you lose." I said as me and Riley left.

As we closed the door, I saw Maya and Farkle, cheering as they hugged us. "That was awesome Riley!" Farkle said as he hugged her. I turned to Maya. "Congrats ranger Rick!" She said as she hugged me tightly. I froze. It took me a second to realize what she just did. I smiled and hugged her back.

"Let's go to the bakery to celebrate!" Farkle said. Couple of trains later we got to Topanga's bakery. "You chose me huh?" I asked Riley, who was sipping on a smoothie. She shrugged. "I pictured myself having a future with the both of you, and seeing how it would work out. I've realized, I'd have a better one with you." She said.

My heart skipped a beat. That had to be one of the greatest things I've ever heard. And then, it happened. From one split second Riley Matthews got text message that seemed to upset her, very much.

"You ok Riley?" I asked concerned. She looked up from her phone and fake smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine." She lied. Something told me that it wasn't gonna be the last text.
