Girl Meets Lucas

Chapter 4: This was gonna happen at some point

Riley's POV

Lucas, Josh, Samantha, and I were all walking to the nighthawk diner. Josh held Samantha's hand. I looked over at Lucas. He was thinking the same thing. Should he? Could he? No. He shouldn't. He couldn't.

He did.

As he reached for my hand, my eyes widened, is this actually happening? He held my hand, our fingers locked with each other. I blushed while looking away. If I could, I would go to the nearest bench, dance like a maniac on top of it, and yell out "YAAAYYY". But no, I have to be calm. I breathed in and out.

"Here we are guys." Said Josh. We all walked in the diner. "Does this really have to be a double date?" Asked Samantha. "We don't like this idea either, but if it's for Riley, I'll do anything." Said Lucas, smiling at me.

I grinned and looked at him. Now I REALLY wanted to jump on a table and dance like a maniac. That's how I express my happiness. We sat on a table of four. A waitress that looked too familiar came up to us.

"Hi, I'm Katy, I'll be your.... Riley?" She asked me. I stood up and reached out my arms. "Mrs. Hart!" I said while hugging her. "How've you been?" She asked smiling. "Pretty good, how's it going with Maya?" She turned and pointed to a blonde. "Why won't you ask her?" I widened my eyes.

Maya's here!!

"Maya!" I yelled. She turned to me, as her jaw dropped. I ran to hug her, but she didn't hug back. "How ya doing?" I asked while chuckling. She didn't move. She kept a straight face. "What's wrong?" I asked. She did nothing. She just looked straight ahead. I turned to see what she was facing.

"Oh, Josh." I finally said. She nodded. I sat next to her. "Maya, do you wanna talk about this?" She shook her head. "You're on a date. Not now Riley." She spoke. "It doesn't matter. I think Lucas will understand this." She gave me a soft smile. "It's ok Riley, just go continue your date. Tell me about it when you come back." A waitress gave her a tuna melt. She smiled at her and ate a piece.

I looked back at Josh. He looked down at his shoes and then looked at me. I then turned to Maya. "Are you sure you're fine?" She nodded. "Relax Riles. This was gonna happen at some point," she paused. "I just didn't think It would be this soon." I got up and went back to Lucas. I sat next to him as Katy came.

"Are you guys ready?" She asked us all. "actually, I'm not very hungry, can I just have a apple pie?" I gave her the menu. "Same for me." Said Lucas. "Alright, 2 Apple pies for Riley and Lucas.what about you 2?" Josh looked at her.

"Im Samantha, and I'll have a sundae, but not 3 scoops,2. Just chocolate chip and Cotton candy. No nuts, no sprinkles. Just whip cream- oh no cherries." Gosh, picky much?

"I'm Josh, and I'll have a chocolate milkshake." Her eyebrows wrinkled. "Josh, I've heard about you. Maya can't ever stop talking about you." Maya went up to her.

"Mom, enough." she said as She looked at everyone at the table. "I won't talk about him again." She went back to her table and ate a tuna melt. I couldn't help myself. I walked up to her and hugged her. Surprisingly, she hugged back.

I definitely wasn't expecting my first date to be like this.

Josh's POV

I couldn't believe this. I was in total shock to even breathe. In case you didn't see what was happening. Here it is:
I was going on a double date with my girlfriend Samantha, Riley, and Lucas. Then Maya came. I couldn't stop seeing her disappointed face when she saw me with Sam. And currently, Riley and Maya are hugging.

This is all my fault.

If it weren't for me,None of this would be happening. If it weren't for Sam, none of this would be happening. That's it. I stood up and said something that I couldn't even believe.

"Maya, can I talk to you for a sec?" She let go of her hug with Riley. "There's nothing to talk about, Josh." Her mom went to her. she whispered something to her. She then looked at me. "Sure." We walked in a corner as she crosses her arms.

"Josh, it's ok. It's not like we were actually gonna happen." I sighed. "I...I know, but I can't stand seeing you like this. If you want, I can tell Samantha-" "tell her what? That you don't wanna be with her cause of me? No Josh, I don't wanna get in the way of your relationships. That'll just make everything worse." She looked down.

"Just let me do this." I said. She looked confused. "Do what?" Then I did the unimaginable. I leaned in and kissed her cheek. Her eyes widened. I froze.

What did I just do? Did I just kiss Maya? I blushed and walked away. I faced my table. Everyone was shocked. Maya's mom came back with our food. "2 Apple pies, 1 milkshake and 1 sundae. " She said as she put them down on the table.

"I can't believe you! Were over!" Samantha yelled as she took her sundae and walked towards Maya.

Oh my god.

"And this, you deserve!" She put her sundae right in Maya's face. Maya gasped and stood up. "And this, is cause I can." She ran over to my table and took my milkshake. She dumped it all over Sam as she screamed. "Stop stop stop!" Katy yelled, as she grabbed Maya by her waist.

I went to Samantha and pulled her back. "What are you doing? She didn't nothing it was all me!" I told her. She glared at me.

"Well, if you like her that much, why won't you ask her out?!" She asked as she ran out of there.

"Ya Josh, why don't you ask her out?" Asked Lucas. I looked down.

Tell me that didn't happen.

Maya's POV

I walked into the kitchen with my mom. I was a mess. Physically and emotionally. she grabbed some paper towels and gave them to me. "Are you ok sweetie?" She asked. I looked down. I wiped a paper towel across my face.

"No." I said, shaking. She hugged me. I hugged back. "Do you need anything? I have to get back to work." Yeah, I needed something, Riley. I wish she wasn't on her date right now. I shook my head. "I'm fine." I lied. She gave me a smile and went back to work. I look towards the front of the diner. Riley and Lucas were talking. It made me sick.

Don't get me wrong, Riley and Lucas are cute and all, but it's not really what I have in mind. I looked at Lucas, dirty blonde hair, hazel eyes, and satisfying smile. He was basically Mr. Perfect. No, stop Maya. You can't fall for your best friends crush. That's honestly the last thing you need.

I then looked at Riley. She had it all, the clothes, the family, the guy, and everything you could ever wish for in life. She was the luckiest person ever. Just looking at her made me sad. I closed my eyes and thought back to the memory that I would never forget.

I remember what my mom whispered. "Give him a chance, you'll never know." That's what my mom thought of my dad. I then heard a laugh coming from Riley. She looked so happy. I'll never have the life she has. I then ran out of the kitchen, passed by Riley and Lucas, and walked home.

I was planning to just lay down on my bed, wait for Riley, and go on with my life. But those plans changed, they changed very, very badly.
