Evelyn

Wow he was grumpy! Did he literally look red just then?

"So..." continued Cheyenne, "You have powers. That's why for the last couple of days you have probably been really confused. Do you have any idea what your powers could be? What has been strange or different recently?"

"Um... well I can see in the dark..."

"That's a good start. That means you have night vision and can see in total darkness. That is a pretty common power. What else?"

"I can run a lot faster than my friends can."

"That's also common. It means you can run and move with a lot more speed than normal mortals. You just have to remember to control your speed when you are in the company of mortals. What other powers could you have?"

"Well I keep seeing colours surrounding people which is really strange..."

"Oh that's fairly common and normal darling," She called me darling? "You can see people's auras. They reflect your emotions." Oh, so that would explain why Noah had looked red before! "This is sometimes useful but it invades people's privacy. I'll teach you how to block seeing people's auras later. Anything else?"

"Yes um, what happened today?"

"Oh that. Well as far as I can see, you have the power of water manipulation. That is a very rare power. You accidentally made it pour with rain when you cried. This means you have the ability to mentally absorb, generate or control water. I think we'd better train you to handle this power quickly before you accidentally do something dangerous!"

"Oh" was all I could think of saying. What Cheyenne had been saying was extraordinary and very hard to believe. I had grown up knowing exactly who I was and now, I couldn't even begin to understand. I was a dæmon?

"Well it seems that those powers are the only ones which have revealed themselves to you yet. Everyone's powers come at certain stages of their lives. Your powers have developed later on in your life, why I don't know. You probably won't have any other powers but there is a very slim chance that you could."

"I have a question," I inquired. "The other day I saw something black moving behind Noah's eyes, what was it?"

"Oh that," smiled Cheyenne, "That's just his powers you saw. Every daemon's powers can be seen moving behind their eyes. But only daemons can see this, not mortals."

"Thanks," I said happily. That was another weight off my shoulders.

"Sorry that must have been a lot of information all dumped on you at once! You have just learnt the basics of what we have all learnt bit by bit as we were growing up. You should be able to walk now, so let's go downstairs and get a cup of coffee to help your brain relax."

I left the Scevola's house feeling somewhat enlightened but still a little bit confused. How could I, a heretofore totally normal sixteen year old, be a dæmon and have powers? Maybe I had some sort of virus that had made me delirious and I had imagined my powers. Maybe my illness had made my vision go funny. A virus would explain everything.

But wait - at least one of my parents would have to be a dæmon, and I was pretty sure neither of my parents were. They were very normal people, I think? What if they were daemons but just had not told me? Maybe they were normal people I don't know. But how does that explain me?
