Noah
A little while later, when Evelyn had calmed down, Dad decided to tell her about the rogues.
"I think it's about time you knew about the rogue dæmons, Evelyn. They are a small minority of people who use their powers for dark things. For example, they are experimenting with different powers at the moment to find the secret of immortality. As you may know, we can make ourselves look younger, and we do live a little bit longer than mortals, but we are not immortal; we can't live forever. We tend to avoid encounters with the rogues because they have a tendency to turn out unpleasantly. The one wearing the mask who scowled at you is their leader, the Aglæca. We are not sure of his age because no one has seen him without his mask but what we do know is that he is very powerful and is not to be underestimated. Why the rogue dæmons were after you is the big question; what could they want with you?"
We all sat around the table puzzled.
"Perhaps they know something about Evelyn's powers that we don't," Cheyenne voiced.
"Well whatever it is it's best to steer clear of them," Dad said to Evelyn, "You shouldn't go anywhere alone outside of school and use cars as your preferred method of transport above walking. This way you limit their chances of meeting you."
"Why is he called the Aglæca?" Evelyn said curiously.
"Because he wanted to be," replied Mum, "I suppose he wanted an intimidating name to make usfeel inferior and afraid of him. It could also have something to do with the meaning of the name. It means formidable, awe-inspiring, monster, fiend or wretch, which pretty much sums him all up."
"Oh okay," Evelyn said quietly.
We sat there for a while, trying to figure out why the rogues would want her.
"Oh my goodness, I forgot about Rae!" Evelyn exclaimed out of nowhere. "I was on the way to her house to stay for the night. She must be really worried."
"Well you can't go by yourself dear, it's not safe," Mum said. "Noah..." Seeing the fierce shake of my head she quickly changed it. "...Cheyenne will drive you around."
"I wouldn't want to put you out!"
"Not at all dear."
"Thank you so much for everything!" Evelyn said on her way out, "You guys have been really great."
