Evelyn

It was a clear night as I walked over to Rae's house; everything was quiet in the neighbourhood. Almost too quiet. I stopped and listened for anything. The unmistakeable crunch of a footstep on gravel alerted me to their presence. Someone was following me. Black shapes moved in the silhouetted bushes behind me as quiet muttering sent me into action. Instinctively I leapt into a run and raced off down the road. The surrounding scenery was a blur as my dæmon speed kicked in. I don't know who was following me but I didn't want to wait around and find out! I ran and ran, my bare feet silently padding along the footpath, my shoes long ago having fallen off. I ran with no direction, fear and adrenalin pushing me onwards. My footsteps soon lead me to the Scevola's. Roman leapt off the porch swing as soon as he saw me sprinting towards him.

"There is... someone... behind me!" I panted stopping and doubling over in the driveway.

Roman reached the front gates just as the things did. I could see now that they were heavily caped people with hoods. Summoning vines from the surrounding trees, Roman pushed with his power at the incoming people. Creepers curled around their feet and tendrils rapidly slithered up their ankles and legs. Seeing the rest of the Scevola's emerging from the house the hooded people slipped out of the vines and disappeared into the shadows. The leader, I was assuming from the ugly black and gold face mask he was wearing, looked straight at me and scowled before also disappearing. I don't know whether I was more shocked by seeing Roman controlling plants, or by strange people chasing me, or being scowled at by some scary looking person.

"Are you okay honey?" asked Mrs Scevola worriedly as she hastily made her way over to me where I was standing still on the driveway.

"Uh yes I think I'm fine Mrs Scevola." I said producing a small smile.

"Oh please call me Liana; Mrs Scevola makes me sound old!" she laughed putting her arm around me, "Come inside dear and have a cup of tea. It will do you a world of good."
