Chapter 5

Months went by, Faryal and Nolan were still dating, Ijaz and Zainab were in a serious relationship while Kasim and Sadaf were also still dating. Mohsin and Safina made up and started dating again. A new guy joined the med school, his name was Jason. He was paired up with Faryal, Dr. Owen was proud of his students so he decided to take them all for dinner, they've been working very hard and he thought that they deserve a break. So they all went to a fancy restaurant, they were having a great time when suddenly Dr. Owen's phone started ringing. Dr. Owen stood up and grabbed his keys and said, "Faryal, Kasim and Jason, come with me! It's an emergency". They all ran into the car and went to the hospital, "What's wrong sir?" Said Faryal.
"Mrs. Smith, the patient you, Kasim and Jason were looking after, has passed out and isn't waking up" said Dr. Owen.

"But how?! I seen her this morning she was fine, I sat with her the whole day talking to her!" Said Faryal.

"Faryal, it happens, a patient seems fine then all of a sudden they become seriously ill" said Dr. Owen. They ran into the ward, Mrs. Smith was in. Faryal ran to her and checked her pulse and heart rate. "Dr. Owen, her heart rate is slowing down!" Said Faryal.
"She's going into a coma!" Shouted Kasim. Dr. Owen did his best to stop Mrs. Smith from going into a coma but they couldn't help her. Faryal stood there in shock, "Faryal?!" Said Dr. Owen. She didn't respond, "Faryal!" said Kasim. Faryal ran out the ward and cried outside, Jason and Kasim went after her. "Are you ok?!" Asked Jason. Faryal hugged Jason, he hugged her back tightly, she cried her eyes's out. "Don't worry Faryal, she'll be ok" said Jason. Kasim stood their helplessly, he didn't know what to do. He hated seeing Faryal cry, he wanted to hug her but she was already hugging Jason he couldn't push him and hug her but he really wanted to. Nolan ran in and saw Faryal and Jason hugging, he was getting angry and jealous. He watched as Jason wiped Faryal's tears away, this made Kasim angry too but he controlled himself. Nolan couldn't take it so he ran and punched Jason.
"What do you think you're doing with MY GIRLFRIEND?!" Said Nolan.
"Nolan! Stop!" Shouted Faryal.
"Move Faryal, Don't interfere" said Nolan. Faryal grabbed Nolans arm and pulled him to the side, "What the hell are you doing?! Why are you punching Jason?!" Shouted Faryal.
"Because he was all over you, hugging you and then touching your face!" Shouted Nolan.
"What?! Touching my face?! Did you even see my face, I'm bloody crying Nolan. One of my patients is in a coma! He was only comforting me and telling me not to cry! And Yes he was hugging me but I hugged him first! Are you going to punch me too!" Shouted Faryal. Nolan was speechless, he didn't know what to say or do, he misunderstood everything. He felt embarrassed and ashamed, "I'm sorry" said Nolan.
"Nolan, I think we need a break" said Faryal.
"What?! You're breaking up with me?!" Said Nolan.
"Yes... I just need a break at the moment, a lot has happened in my life and I just need space and time" said Faryal.
"Ok if that's what you want then that's fine with me" said Nolan. He walked away disappointed. Jason looked at her and said, "Are you ok?!".
"Yeah I'm fine, I just want to be alone right now, if you don't mind" said Faryal.
"Yeah that's fine I'll be with the other patients" said Jason. Faryal went and sat on the bench, she cried for a while and then went to Mrs. Smith. Faryal felt a connection with Mrs. Smith as she was her first patient and they talked to each other everyday. Mrs. Smith helped Faryal a lot and gave her advice. Especially this morning when she said to Faryal, "Courage to live a life true to yourself, not the life others expect of you and then said, "You're not required to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm". Faryal's eyes started tearing up seeing Mrs. Smith in this condition, Kasim was standing behind her and said, "Are you ok Faryal?!".
"No" said Faryal. Faryal hugged him and Kasim hugged her back, they were in that position for a while when suddenly Faryal pushed him away. "What's wrong Faryal?!" Said Kasim.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have hugged you, What would Sadaf think?! Nolan saw me and Jason hug he was quite pissed off so I could only imagine how Sadaf would have felt if she saw us hugging! I'm so sorry" said Faryal.
"Stop apologising, I can understand, Mrs. Smith was your first patient and she was very special and I honestly don't care what Sadaf thinks!" Said Kasim. Suddenly Mrs. Smith's hands started to move, slowly she opened her eyes. Faryal ran to call Dr. Owen, Jason and Dr. Owen rushed in. "Wow Mrs. Smith has regained consciousness, this is great news, I'll go inform the other doctors and Jason, please go see patient in room 200" said Dr. Owen.
"Are you ok, Mrs. Smith?!" Said Faryal.
"Yes I'm fine dear. Faryal couldn't control herself and started to cry.
"Oh my dear, why are you crying?!" Said Mrs. Smith.
"I thought we were going to lose you" said Faryal.
"Oh silly don't cry and don't worry I'm not going to leave you that fast! I need to annoy you a lot before going" said Mrs. Smith. Kasim gave Faryal a box of tissues and wiped away her tears.
"Faryal, Kasim remember on your first day I told you both that you were a cute couple and that you were meant for each other well I can still see the love in both of your eyes, why are you both denying it?!" Said Mrs. Smith. Faryal changed the subject, "Mrs. Smith, you need lots of rest so go to sleep and take care" said Faryal.
"Yes you need rest, we'll leave now, also  we will be here early in the morning ok bye now" said Kasim.
"Thank you both for looking after me and please do tell Jason that I said thank you to him too for looking after me. You guys will be great doctors one day" said Mrs. Smith.
"Thank you so much Mrs. Smith it means a lot to us" said Faryal. With that, they went outside. "I'll walk you to your room" said Kasim.
"Ok" said Faryal.  As they were walking Faryal couldn't stop herself from asking Kasim something. "Why have you been so rude to me lately?!" Said Faryal.
"I'm sorry..." Said Kasim.
"It's ok but it's killing me not knowing what I've done, you've been ignoring me and shouting at me for no reason, you haven't been coming in and then suddenly come in with your girlfriend!" Said Faryal.

"Does me having a girlfriend bother you?!" Said Kasim.

"Yes! It does a lot!" Said Faryal.

"Why?!" Said Kasim.

"I don't know..." Said Faryal.
