[ 23 ] VENTURE

MATTEO

Theodore Wittstock...the name of my son. I couldn't stop repeating the name in my head ever since Tosha informed me that this was the name she was currently thinking of for our son. I thought the name was perfect. After my flight, I spent the first night in the hotel thinking of all of the things I envisioned myself doing with my son once he was a bit older. I knew that I had a few years to go until my son was old enough to enjoy the things I wished for us to do like throw around a football, go camping or something just as simple as ride his first tricycle. I was excited to see what his personality would be and if he would have more traits from his mother or from myself.

I wondered what my son would look like, if he'd take more after my features or Tosha's. I hoped that he was my identical twin but I would love to see a perfect blend between myself and Tosha. I smiled to myself as the thought ran through my mind.

I grew up playing many sports, having the freedom to dive into many programs and groups as a child as my parents didn't limit me in youth. However, as I got older, my father began to push into my subconscious mind that anything I was currently doing at the moment wouldn't be my future and would be short lived. My father desperately wanted me to be a part of the family business just as my older brother had.

However, I wouldn't submit to this type of conditioning. I had my own dreams. I had my own plans for my life. I wanted nothing more than to play football and that's what I pushed for in my life to get me where I am.

I never wanted to be the father I had to my own children. I wanted to be a supportive father and husband. The last thing I wanted was to hear Tosha's cries late at night because of something I did, or more rather, something I didn't do. I wanted to be the father that my wife and my children enjoyed being around, felt open to share things with and the right support to keep the household thriving.

As a man, I was truly fearful of becoming my father but knew that I was working hard to change myself and do the necessary work to show up not only for my career but also my family.

I fixed the collar of my top and tucked my chain inside. I waited for the elevator doors of the rooftop to open.

Tonight was the rooftop party that Todd invited me to and a few of my teammates were expected to be here as well. This was a quick trip and after tomorrow's seminar, I would be back in the air on my way home.

Once the elevator doors opened, the loud party music rippled through my ears. The vibration of the music traveled through my body and smoke from hookah, cigars or any other thing that could be smoked filled the air. The sound of chatter, loud laughter and women's laughter emitted in the air.

I stepped out of the elevator and a wait staff stood nearby with a tray of shots. Some dark, the rest light. I grabbed a shot of the dark liquor. I held the shot and scanned the environment, looking around the space to ensure who was here and where to move first. I recognized a few faces, from celebrities, a few sports executives and many players. Aside from the players were others I recognized as agents or publicists.
