TOSHA
I sighed deeply as I cuddled myself closer to Matteo's warm body. I was definitely hogging the quilt that he'd brought down here so much so that Matteo went back to the closet and grabbed another one. We both sat cuddled in the warmth of the other in our downstairs home theater on the larger sectional sofa directly in front of the screen. The movie we decided to watch was Fast Five from the Fast & Furious film series.
After Matteo returned from his trip, I knew things hadn't gone the best and he'd been quite short with me on the phone when I asked if he wanted to talk about it.
The most I got out of him was that his working relationship with Todd and Brigette were over. I didn't push it over the phone as I knew he'd share once he had time to think and reflect about it.
I was glad that once he arrived home, he had enough time to clear his mind and express what occurred over his trip. Matteo's vulnerability made me feel safe and secure with him. I hadn't a clue what type of program Todd and his office had set up regarding Brigette and the teammates but it was truly disgusting to think that this man who knew I was only a few weeks–maybe less–from delivering our first child would even suggest something like that to a married man. Matteo sure had a reputation in college but once we got serious in our relationship, it was known that he was a changed man. I felt as though at times, people were consistently being sent into his life to taunt or tempt him.
I couldn't fathom what that was about or why. Why couldn't people respect our marriage and what we have built? Why did it seem as if instead of cheering us on and supporting us and the new life we were creating, it seemed as if evil seeds wanted to infiltrate it and destroy it?
I was sick to my stomach when I heard of Todd's antics, drunk or not, drugged up or not. It was distasteful and I wanted him nowhere near my family or my husband.
"There's still a few things we have to straighten out, legal matters of course as contracts were signed." He muttered in the dimly lit room.
I nodded and snuggled my head on his shoulder. "Yes, but Jimmy can definitely get you out of that. Jimmy's really good at what he does." I added, knowing we had Jimmy as Matteo's sports attorney.
Matteo agreed. "Yeah, but I don't want you to worry about any of this. I will have it all handled so there's little to no distractions awaiting the delivery of our son." He turned to face me and our eyes locked. " I don't want anyone or anything coming in between my career or our family. Moving forward, I'm definitely going to do further vetting for the next team I join. The last thing I want around me are personalities that conflict with my moral compass and my image for my career."
Matteo pushed himself closer to me and leaned in for a kiss. I welcomed the kiss and moved the leg that I'd placed in between his legs before.
"Hmm," I hummed. "I admire your stance to make the proper decisions not only for football but also our family," I kissed his lips again, massaging his ear as I continued speaking over the movie in the background. "I'm no longer working with Sergio. I think things were dragging a bit unnecessarily and the menu is complete to my satisfaction. I'm sending the final details to Lori to draft up the mock menu designs and see what things are looking like from here."
Matteo smiled. "Good, I couldn't bear having another man in my house alone with you for that long. The thoughts he must've had with my fertile wife just waddling around sexy and pregnant. And him touching you..."
I did share the strange moment I had with Sergio with Matteo recently. It only felt right. I didn't know what I felt in that moment towards Sergio but it definitely wasn't true feelings or emotions. We connected over cooking, nothing more and nothing less.
Matteo was upset and he threatened Sergio, hoping he never showed his face here again. I had Lori sorting out the details with that matter while ensuring things were amicable. I knew that hormones were surging through me and no matter the dreams I had or the random thoughts that popped in my head, my full attention was focused on my husband and our family.
I hit his chest. "Oh shut up,"
