hey so it's also kinda long again
The alley was quiet, too quiet. The shadows shifted unnaturally as a grotesque curse dragged itself along the walls, its swollen limbs stretching toward Y/N.
She stood there calm, her expression serene, though her eyes glowed faintly with the trace of her telepathic power. If she wanted to, she could have ended it before it took another step. The curse's mind was an open book to her—full of hunger, violence, the instinct to devour. Crushing it mentally would be effortless.
But before she could act, another presence entered the alley.
A blur of black, the shimmer of shikigami shadows—Megumi Fushiguro appeared, his divine dogs lunging forward with fangs bared. The curse screeched, collapsing under the coordinated assault.
Megumi followed in, his stance sharp, his gaze colder than the night. "Get back," he ordered, not even looking at her at first.
Y/N tilted her head slightly, her lips pressed in silence. She didn't step back. Instead, her voice slipped directly into his mind.
"That won't be necessary. I wasn't in danger."
Megumi froze mid-strike. His focus faltered for just a moment as her words echoed inside his head. The divine dogs hesitated too, sensing his distraction.
His eyes darted to her, scanning—ordinary at a glance, quiet, unassuming... but something about her felt off. Strong. Too strong.
"...You're not a civilian," he muttered, suspicion lacing his tone.
Y/N only blinked slowly, folding her hands in front of her. The curse writhed weakly, still alive. With nothing but a glance, she pierced into its mind, silencing it instantly. The body collapsed, lifeless.
Megumi stiffened. He hadn't seen her move. "What did you just do?"
Her gaze softened as she finally spoke aloud, her voice quiet, almost melodic.
"I told it to stop existing."
For a long moment, silence filled the alley. Megumi's shikigami stood guard, but their ears twitched—they weren't wary of her. They trusted her immediately.
Megumi's frown deepened. "Who... are you?"
Y/N pressed her lips together again, defaulting back to telepathy.
"No one important. You don't need to concern yourself with me."
But Megumi wasn't the type to just walk away. Something about her unsettled him, not in the same way curses did, but in a way that made his chest tighten.
And though she didn't admit it, something about him—the way he charged in without hesitation, the way his shikigami moved with loyalty at his side—stirred something unfamiliar in her.

Megumi crouched low in the grass, his eyes tracking the faint residue of cursed energy. The report had mentioned a mid-level curse haunting the outskirts of town, but the trail felt strange—fragmented, as though the curse was splitting its presence deliberately.
His divine dogs sniffed the ground, ears flat in agitation. Megumi's expression hardened. "It's close."
He moved quickly, weaving through trees until he reached an abandoned warehouse. The stench of cursed energy hung thick inside.
The curse lunged without warning, a hulking, centipede-like creature with jagged teeth. Megumi summoned Nue, lightning flashing as it struck—but the curse was fast, darting between shadows. It almost clipped his side when suddenly—
