Alessandro pushes open Gabe's door and steps inside, his eyes immediately setting on his sorellina.
The rest of his family had flown out to handle a shipment delay in France and shut down all accounts linked to Antonio. That fucker wasn't going to stay alive for long. It had taken three guards to stop Matteo from carving his head off right then and there.
Gabe sat next to where Aria slept, his laptop propped on his lap with the screen dimmed to its lowest setting. His focus was locked on tracking down the source of the photos of Aria. The IP address was a dead end; whoever was behind this had covered their tracks well.
But they hadn't seen the wrath of the Berardi's
Alessandro approached the bed. His sister was curled against a pillow, her palm tucked under her cheek. For a moment, that rare, fragile calmness settled over him
He reached out, resting his hand gently against her forehead.
"Si sente bene?"
"Sì, la febbre si sta abbassando."
"Hmm."
He lingered for a moment before withdrawing, slipping his hand back into his pocket. He would destroy every shadow that threatened her- walk deeper into the fire of violence and destruction, if that's what it took to protect her.
He exhaled slowly, then turned to Gabe.
"Mi sto dirigendo verso la base 3, devo incontrare la squadra prima della missione."
Gabe nodded, looking away from the screen, "La terrò al sicuro e in salute."
"Tornerò prima dei ragazzi, tienimi aggiornato."
