"Hey Alex." I said, smiling, and sitting down. I saw Holly give me the thumbs up from across the room from where she was stood. Alex, who had just taken a gulp of water, inhaled it up his nose and choked.
"Yo, Becky..." he coughed and spluttered into my lap. I grimaced.
"Thanks, mate." Alex looked a bit awkward.
"Sorry...was just surprised to see you here I guess."
"Why?" I teased, "I'm more likely to be here than you. I've been here longer than you have."
"Okay, whatever." We grinned at each other. I felt my walls that had protected my heart fall to my feet.
"How's your girlfriend?" I asked. His face fell.
"She's not my girlfriend."
"Tell that to her tongue and her tonsils," I scoffed. Alex smiled.
"I guess I should have known though. You kissed me in the park but the next time I see you your with another girl. Not a big surprise, knowing boys like you."
"What do you mean, boys like me?" Alex's eyes narrowed.
"You know, players." I shrugged like it was no big deal. "The worst kind of boys."
Not really. There are guys that are far, far worse.
Alex folded his arms.
"I'm not a player." I smirked derisively. "No, really, I'm not. Honest."
"Really? Prove it." I said.
"How am I supposed to prove it?"
"Be loyal to someone, or something." I replied.
"How about you, then?"
The question threw me off guard. "Me?"
"Yeah, you. I'll be loyal to you."
"Um, I can't." I floundered.
"Can't what?" Alex asked.
"Be in a relationship. Not with you, not with anyone."
"Why not?"
"I....I..." How the hell could I explain this?!
"I just got out of a...relationship of sorts. It was a really bad relationship. LIke, seriously bad. I can't...let anyone close enough to hurt me like that again. I can't fall in love again."
"Hmm..." Alex murmured, then grinned.
"What?" I asked.
"Well then I won't fall in love with you. I'll be loyal, but we won't love."
I laughed. This would be funny. "Okay, and I won't fall in love with you."
"Seriously? That's gonna be hell difficult for you." Alex grinned.
"Whatever," I flicked him off, punched his arm playfully and went back to where Holly was standing impatiently.
