Austin got worse and worse. He looked so lifeless and began coughing up more blood. Investigators and the doctors each spoke with us. The truth was wanting to be uncovered, how and why did this happen. I fear we may lose him...

Austin was diagnosed with a stomach flu coming back from our trip, a specific food not agreeing with him. I do remember him getting some mail, and upon opening a letter, a powder immediately shot of the letter, getting all over his face and some in the bedroom. We were confused as to what that was, and wiped the powder away. There wasn't a note or return mail address. Maybe it was prank.

Then the next few days Austin got worse. I began to pick up some common flu symptoms but didn't progress after that. While the doctor ran more tests, they were able to run the powder down to being anthrax. A bacterial inflection affecting the skin and lungs. It appeared that it was purposely sent to Austin. Someone was out to get him. Someone wanted to kill him. Oh no...

"Let me see my daughter!" I laid in my assigned bed and I sat up when I hear what sounds like to be my mothers voice. She had a mask on her face, and was trying to push and get in the door. "Mama.." I whisper. I ran up to her and hugged her tightly. "Baby, are you okay? I heard what happened." I nodded and looking at Austin's limp and motionless body, I began to cry again.

"Hey, hey, it'll be okay. Austin is strong. You be strong too. Not only for him, but for yourself." My mother comforted. I nod and wipe away my tears. Taking deep breaths, I go back to my bed and turn to face Austin. I just hope he wakes up.

From everything that happened within the day, I passed out from exhaustion. It wasn't until I heard cries, making me jolt awake. Everyone began to crowd around Austin's bed, wearing face masks, and hug him the best they could without getting too close, for where they may get infected.

I tried to reach out to Austin whose half lidded eyes met mine. I felt relieved to see him awake, but only black consumed me once more.

"So you mean to tell me, that he's going to be there in confinement all alone?" Alex asked, his tone laced with anger. "I'm sorry, but yes. None of you had intake the anthrax, you test out negative. It is for your health and safety that you leave the confinement." The doctor tried to reason with Alex. He just shook his head no. "That is my best friend in there! I'm not just going to leave him by himself! That's worse than just having his sickness!"

"Is there a cure?" I ask cutting them both off. "Since Austin suffers from Inhalation Anthrax, we are unsure for a stable cure. But for some cases of Cutaneous Anthrax can usually be cured with antibiotics. We will try and work with that."

"A-Alex, would you really stay with him?" I asked as my hands lightly clutched onto his shirt. He nodded. "You are so kind and brave. Good." I cupped his cheek before lightly kiss it. "You stay with Austin, meanwhile I'm going to do my own investigation. The envelope and letter are being examined. I'm going to see what I can gain from that and from home."

"Okay, keep me updated." I nodded before entering back into the confinement and caress Austin's cheek. "Don't you worry my love. I will find out who sent and did this to you. I love you."

Departing away from the quarantined room, I leave Alex, Robert, and the doctor. I felt myself grow angry and upset. Who in their right mind would send something like that to somebody? Someone is after Austin. I began pondering certain scenarios as to how this person got contact with the plague, who it was sent by and who placed it in our mailbox.

Having my mother drive me back home, I took a shower and changed my clothing. The bedroom was already searched and checked out. It was safe to go into the room. Still putting on a face mask and gloves, I do my own private search. Looking throughout the house and the many rooms, I was able to find a piece of jewel. It was a deep shade of maroon, and stabbed the heck out of my bare foot.

This was something! Placing the jewel in a little container, I continue searching. Something was off. And boy, was I going to find out.

A U T H O R S • N O T E:

Poor Austin!! Anthrax is something so deadly and can kill within a matter of time. I kind of tweaked some things, but most of the information included, is indeed true. I did some research.
