The afternoon is full of laughter and playful banter. We did so many things in only a short amount of time and still had fun whilst doing it. We are all currently lounged around the room. Some of us on couches. Some of us on bean bags. Some of us on the floor. Really only me on the floor. My head rests against the side of a couch and the rest of my body is curled up into an awkward ball position.
I look out of the window to see the sun setting. It must be around 4:30. I should start heading home now. I can cook dinner, eat and then go to my room and read more. A nice relaxing night. Maybe I'll watch a movie. My phone buzzes from my back pocket making me jump. I pull it out to see a message from Mum.
Hey sweetie. Have you given your Grandma the medicine yet? Either way when will you be home? Xo
~MumShit! I completely forgot. I jump up and push my phone into my back pocket again. Blake notices my sudden outburst and stands up, walking over to me.
"What's wrong?" he whispers as he gets closer. That's when I realise that everyone else is asleep. I have to admire the fact that they can get to sleep that fast.
"I have to get medicine for my Grandma and take it to her. Would you be able to come with me?" he nods straight away and pulls out his phone.
"Of course. I'll just text Mum."
"Thank you," he smiles before typing a message to his Mum. I decide it would be a good idea to send my own mother a message and that's exactly what I do. We seem to both finish sending the message at the same time. I look around until I find a piece of paper and a pen.
Sorry guys. We had to go. It was a great day. Text you later. Casey and Blake xx
I sit it on the coffee table and exit the room, Blake following behind me. We walk down the hallway, through the kitchen and out the sliding door.
The cold air hits us immediately, making us pull our jackets closer to us. We make our way to the concrete footpath and walk towards the centre of town. It's about a ten minute walk. The whole trip neither of us say anything to each other, we just keep walking. For the most part I watch ahead of me but occasionally I look at my feet. I kick stones and watch as they roll onto the road. Things seem awkward but I have no idea why.
We pass house after house, until finally I see the chemist in front of us. The bright yellow building sticks out like a sore thumb in this grey town. We continuing walking towards it until we're finally inside. The heaters are on thankfully, and warm us up quickly. I walk over to the desk and wait for someone to notice me. A young girl, around my age, comes over smiling.
"How can I help you?"
"My Grandma, Evelyn Macalister, rang and ordered some medicine. I'm here to pick it up and take it to her."
"Sure, I'll just go grab it," she disappears around a corner behind the desk. I drum my fingers against the desk to the beat of the soft music playing. She returns with a bag in hand. She places it on the desk and scans a barcode on the sticker that is stuck on the outside of the bag. "That'll be $22.35 for today."
I pull my credit card out from my phone case. I tap it against the designated area and after a moment it beeps, saying activation successful. I put my card away and grab the bag. "Thank you."
"Your welcome have a nice day," she smiles and I return it before turning away and leaving. I carry the bag in one hand and stuff the other into the pocket of my hoodie. We continue walking along silently, neither of us doing anything other than walking. Blake's hand slips into my pocket and grabs onto my hand, pulling it out. I smile and push my fingers in between his. He moves so he's walking closer to me. I can feel the heat radiate off his body. I definitely prefer walking like this.
