So the dress above is Kat's dress that she will be wearing to the ball.
*Kat's POV*

"You going to that Masquarade ball?" Kat asked Chrissy, pointing to the poster on the wall in the cafeteria. It had details about the dnce, where it was, and the Mr. And Mrs. christmas award.

"Of course. Especially since Michael has already asked me out." Chrissy smiled. She had been considerably bubblier since she started dating Michael. She could go on and on about him. It was kind of annoying, but they were cute together. "You?"

"I'm not sure...."

"Aaw come on! You don't need a date. It is called a masquarade ball. You could meet a mysterious boy and fall in love with him like those silly Disney movies." Chrissy chuckled.

Kat shrugged. "Well I know you're not going to give up until I say I'm going since its your mission to 'get me out of my shell', so sure. I'm sure it'll be fun hanging out by the wall with all of the other dateless girls." Kat sighed, throwing away the rest of her lunch and plopping down across from Chrissy.

"Don't think like that! We'll go dress and mask shopping this weekend."

"Why are you so excited for this?"

"Because for once the dance won't be in the stinky school gym. It'll be in another, bigger building. Like the homecoming or prom for seniors. And let's be honest, there will be alcohol." Kat shuddered, remembering the Halloween.

"I'm not sure about you but I'm going to stay away from alcohol for a while. I just got done with my lockdown at home, I'd rather not get grounded again. My mom may have been able to change it from 3 weeks to 2, but I'm not sure she'll help if I did it a second time." Kat slung her bag over her shoulder and stood up, motioning Chrissy to do the same to head to their next class, French.

Kat lowered her head, using her hair to cover her view from Luke's gaze as she passed by his group. "Hey Kat!" He called. She slowed down a moment, having a vauge déjà vu moment from the first day of school. But she just kept on walking, leaving Chrissy in the dust as she talked to Michael.

Luke followed behind her, grabbing her shoulder to turn her around. "Come on Nightingale. Talk to me!"

"Okay, fine... Go on." Kat stared at her boots, not daring to meet Luke's eyes. She couldn't believe it herself when she started having feelings for Luke. And to be honest she was scared. The last time she fell for a boy, Max from the football team, in 9th grade he embarrassed her in front of the entire school, making her not having any crushes for the next 2 years.

"Okay. This is good." Luke said slowly as if he was scared she would run away if he was too loud. "Well I'd like to know if you were going to that masquarade and if....you had a date yet." Kat glanced up at his baby blue eyes, her heart melting at the sight. She shook her head quickly. He would just push her away.

"Um... No I don't think I'm going." She mumbled quietly. Kat didn't see his reaction since she turned on her heal and mixed in with the wave of students, her heart feeling like it broke to a million of pieces.

--------- that weekend, a week from the masquerade ---------

"Okay Kat, so this is Molly. She's a dear friend of mine. She makes a lot of Chrissy's dresses when we go to fancy events." Chrissy's mother explained, motioning towards a stout lady with a very neat and tight bun.

"Now, Chrissy, I'll be back in an hour or so. That should be enough time for you guys right?" She asked, scrolling through emails on her phone, not bothering to look up.

"Yeah that'll be fine." Chrissy answered nonchantly. Her mother nodded giving a quick goodbye hug to Chrissy and rushing out of the little, private shop she drove the two of them to. Kat turned to Chrissy, about to ask if they really were going to just need one hour. "When she says an hour she means 3 hours." Kat nodded, glancing around the dress on the racks.

"Okay darling, so how about I take your measerments and help you find a dress for this little party." The lady gripped Kat's arm, making her cringe. She dragged her over to a little pedestal, having her stand on it and letting her take measurements of her body. Her waist, arms, heighth. Kat kept fidgeting awkwardly, Chrissy laughing at her friends reaction to the attention.

"I've never gotten used to it and I've had to live with if for 17 years." Kat almost forgot Chrissy turned 17 just a week ago. She didn't have a big party. She just invited Kat over and they watched movies all night.

After another minute of pampering, Molly let Kat down. "Okay darling, I'll be right back with some dresses that could work out for you. Until then, you can look around here."

Kat nodded and shuffled towards Chrissy. "I feel vandalised." She said shortly, making Chrissy laugh, throwing her head back.

"Come on. Let see what they've got." The girls looked around at the different dresses, Kat cringing at most of them. Although she was attracted to a knee length black dress, but Molly quickly shot that down, saying it was for a cocktail party.

"Okay Chrissy, I put some dresses in the fitting room to the very left for you. Kat, yours are right next to hers." They nodded, leaving the women at the counter and walking to the back of the store.

"See you in a minute." Chrissy wiggled her eyebrows before closing the curtain. Kat stepped in her own dressing room, observing the dresses on the hooks. This is going to take a while. She thought.

She tried on every dress, getting completely different reactions for each one. But none of them seemed to help her.

It looks cute!

Ew, definitely not that one.

Eh. Could do better.

Oooh! That looks good!

Kat shook her head. She had 2 dresses left. One was a light blue color that was poofed up at the skirt part that made Kat physically cringe at the thought of wearing that to the dance. The other dress was a sleek black sleevless dress. She decided to try that one first, mainly cause it was black, slipping the dress on her nearly naked body. Once she put it on, she realized she liked it a lot more than she thought she would..

She walked out uncertainly, staring at the floor.

Molly sqeauled, "oh my gosh, perfect!" She jumped up, circling around Kat like a vulture. "It looks amazing! So now that you both have finally found your dresses, you guys need masks and shoes."

After another half hour of looking, Kat found some heals that went very well with her dress and a silver mask that had a strap so she wouldn't have to hold it up. The mask had small swirly designs, curling up at the ends.

Chirssy had some flats that went with her dark blue dress and black mask. In one word, they were pretty successful in finding an outfit for the Christmas ball. Now they sat outside a small ice cream place, eating some victory ice cream. Kat just couldn't get the thought of Luke asking her if she was going to the ball. Was he planning to actually ask her out? Or was he going to plan some elaborate prank on her? She was brought back into reality when Chrissy shoved her ice cream in her face, making them all laugh.

But what nobody knew was that someone was planning something. Something to keep her from thinking she could do whatever she wanted just because she was close to Luke. This someone was going to put Kat back in her place.
